We just started this piece yesterday....I'm so excited. Sometimes I hear Italian pronunciation instead of latin...e.g. soft "c" in exCelsis, benediCimuste, paCem...
@fabriziocaragiulo48127 жыл бұрын
And that's how it should be sung, since it is the Church pronunciation (aka late Roman empire pronunciation)

I just realized from wiki, that church (Liturgical) latin pronunciation is is different across the world...therefore all US choirs singing latin should sound like Italian for me, so there is not universal rule.

+Chilli Kroatien When I was in a choir once I needed to sing this, and yes, very difficult, but with some practise it will be getting the right note... (I had a little bit of a different version, and only the first two songy bits)

generally, all performance is flawless but the Agnus Dei is not 'blues' at all. Mr. Chilcott's indication in the score is clear enough: 'with a bluesy feel'. Each pair of quavers should be played unequally long-short, in accordance with triplets in each beat. Many choirs misinterpreted this, and this performance is no exception. we have got to observe the music we are about to perform.

Hey I just have some different ideas after I saw your comment. Well, I think the real meaning of " bluesy feel" by the composer, is motional and atmosphere. And it's not a blues at all indeed lol ps. because of the other movement's indication all have a " tempo" after the feeling kinds of suggestion. that's what I think haha
@epic_10728 жыл бұрын
DityaSangGita Yes I agree. The Angus dei is lovely though!!

Blues and swing are by no means the same thing. (Drummer here.) :-) Not contradicting you per se, you may be right about the composer's intentions; I'm just pointing out that a 'bluesy feel' does not actually imply anything about swing so the indication is not as clear as you make out.

IMHO, this is utterly ridiculous. Sacred music shouldn't be mixed with profan music.

Who gets to define what is profane? You?

Sorry, don’t agree! Bach used secular music in his Masses and Cantatas and I don’t think anyone argues against this. Music is Personal Personally, I love it!

You’re telling me you don’t like A Charlie Brown Holy Sacrifice of the Mass?
@mutestingray4 жыл бұрын
True, but none of that should have been used for the liturgy. They weren’t right then and this isn’t right now.
