My all time favourite book. Karen Savage is the best narrator I've had the pleasure of hearing, I am so glad she recorded this. It's become something I like to play in the background just for comfort at this point. I know the story by heart but this recording is just so absolutely lovely to listen to.

I'd also recommend one read by Elizabeth Klett. She has a very gentle voice that suits Sara, and her voice for miss Minchen (sorry if spelling is wrong) is hilarious!

Such a delightful story 💙 I can’t imagine it read better by any other than Karen Savage 💜 What a blessing that Miss Savage has volunteered to read so many titles for LibriVox. A thousand thank yous!

The little girl with a heart of a warrior! I'm 20 but I wish to be as mature and sensible as Sarah. Great book read by a gifted narrator, thank you LibriVox !

Another beautiful read by Karen Savage that in a way made the story even grimmer in parts because she read it so well. I cried over Sara & Ann, in particular.

I really enjoyed this book and other audiobooks read by karen savage, this one particularly was read so well with perfect tones. However it felt like a blow everytime they mentioned the ‘diamonds’ as a pakistani it saddens to think of all the ‘diamond mines’ and country riches taken by colonisors and how ignorantly and nonchalantly it’s mentioned through faceless indian servants

I know. As much as I adore this story, the colonialism and classism in it make me cringe so much now. The story has so many important life lessons in it, but *damn* is it a product of its time. I'd like to think that Sara educated herself about the unethical-ness of receiving the wealth made from the diamond mines, and she traveled to India, gave that money back to the Indian people, and apologized profusely. She was already wealthy before the diamond mines, so she'd still be set for life and giving that money back wouldn't ruin her. If she learned about the harm, she would give it back because it's the just thing to do. It's what a princess would do.
