Holy shit, I was just going to say something along the lines of what you said. What skill or talent does it take to buy a boat and put your foot into it or firewall the throttles. Now if you can Paddle into a 15' beach break barrel at La Fonda or deep water reef like Todos Santos, drop in, barely catching a rail, pull up and get covered up, pump out, escape and kick out and paddle back, then you can claim to be a Big Balls O'Reilly. My wife has never driven a boat before and she too can firewall the throttles and hang on with the same results we see here. Shit it takes more balls and skill for her to never have ridden a motorcycle before and jump on my son's YZ250F and take off on it at Cal City when she was damn near 50 years old.

Driving a big boat fast through the inlets is the equivalent of me driving my 5 mile long pothole-filled (and I mean truely filled) dirt road at 60-80 MPH just to save time and from being beat to death by the road. Speed helps in some situations, and the brake is not always the best answer.

Seas were 8-10 ft that day, winds blowing a solid 20 kt, gusting over 30 and she washed up on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale. Took 3 days, about $100k to get that boat off the beach

@majorsynthqed737410 ай бұрын
Outboards are easier to maintain and generally have fewer maintenance issues. They cost less too.
@jyoung94347 ай бұрын
@@majorsynthqed7374 I disagree with you there. Sterndrives cost about 1/2 the price of equivalent hp outboards, and you can get about 60% of the parts to maintain them from auto parts stores (because they use car engines). Where outboards have the advantage is that they are much lighter for equivalent hp and they move the weight/CG farther back on the boat. Both of those aspects almost guarantee that (given the same hp) the outboard boat will have more top speed. And speed is what everyone wants. Go online and check prices for just a single brand new 350. 400, or 450 hp outboard. The prices will astound you! In the present day, Hulk Hogan could not afford to buy a new boat with 5 ea. 400 hp outboards (in addition to owning nice house & cars, etc.). But Pit Bull could afford to buy two them!
