If the files were from a go pro I feel your pain, they are notorious for corrupting files that's why I basically binned mine.

They were recorded on a phone. That wasn't the issue, because if it were, you'd see the device heading into low orbit right now 🙂

I understand your annoyance at technical gremlins. I had some great photos and video from our holiday in Kefalonia but forgot to take my phone out of my pocket before going snorkeling. Then after having a cigarette to relieve my frustration, wnet back in the water with tobacco and lighter in the pockmy phone had been in.

Old man gaming channel, yeah I'll give ya a sub lol. Who knows the gaming channel might end up being more popular than this one. As for data corruption, yep it's an utter pain in the ass, been there done that. I have a NAS running TrueNAS set up with ZFS snapshots and Shadow Copy for Windows, when I was doing videos I was sticking my files on there and if anything happened to them, corruption, deletion etc. I could restore them pretty easily because of the snapshots. It can be expensive to set up or buy a system depending on performance and total storage for it (I currently have 50TB of drives) but well worth the expense if you're filming multiple projects and they take a while to complete and you want to be absolutely sure data is safe. Offline backups of files on an external is a must as well, preferably multiple copies so that way you at least have another copies to fall back on. I found out the hard way years ago that backups are essential, lost 10TB worth of movies, shows, photos etc. Now I'm a nutter with backups lol.

I hear you, unfortunately I have neither the space nor the money for a NAS, although it is something I'd very much like to get. I'm usually pretty good with keeping at least two sets of files, but it was a bit of a perfect storm of calamities in this particular case. It's the first time it's happened in a long time, I just need to tighten up my processes a bit. Thanks for the sub, I appreciate it 🙂

@@SteamGeezerUK Yeah NAS stuff can cost a fortune depending on the amount of storage you want. Used stuff like motherboard, CPU etc is usually fine, drives are where the real cost comes into it. I haven't lost data in a while with my set up but I also have almost $6000 AUD in drives lol.
