I was thinking $50 and would still think it's pricey but maybe worth it. For 175, I might just install a locking nut like the Floyds. Before installing the nutbuster you followed a specific pattern of trem bends then chord strums, without using the trem bar to help reset the tuning. However after you installed the nutbuster you repeatedly shook the term bar after each phrase, which we know helps reset tuning. It would have been a much more scientific test had you followed the exact same procedure before and after fitting the nutbuster gadget. Your testing is usually much more ‘consistent’ and fair than this appeared to be. I’m sure you didn’t deliberately try to influence the results, but in the case you certainly didn’t apply the same test methods, so it’s impossible to know if the result was accurate.
@leonardodufloth93094 жыл бұрын
Yep, every Floyd Rose owner knows that tuning issues with floating trems is the bridge not properly returning to position and its very evident on up bends so a down bend after an upend usually helps it get back in position flush with the body. I don't know if Darrell was doing it consciously or not but it definitely makes this particular test a little sketchy.
@DarrellBraunGuitar4 жыл бұрын
Hi, If you watch closely you notice that when demonstrating the "bending up" section I never "reset" the trem by bending it downwards - only upwards which does NOT reset the trem - and tuning was solid. Also, most of the "soloing" section I don't reset the trem after bending upwards :)

The bend up tests at 3:25 were where we first saw the unmodified go out of tune. The bar stays back, so there was no downward flutter for the unmodified, but the bar is moved forward and there is some downward flutter for the modified in the test that starts at around 7:30. However, at 7:40 Darrell seems to show that the guitar is in tune before he does the flutter. So we do have scientific proof :)

My Strat won't bend up a full pitch note with the whammy bar. I only get a half note. Mine has the 6 screws on the bridge - is that why? If not, what is it then? PS. Great product. This, along with the Vegatrem, should transform my Strat into a well oiled machine, in terms of whammying, anyway. Edit: Holy Moly! The price tags on the Nut Buster and the Vegatrem add up about what I spent on my (MIM) Strat brand new! Maybe worth it if you are a Custom Shop kinda guy, but...if these wonderful innovators want to reach the masses, they need to get it at an accessible price point.
@bubkusjones4 жыл бұрын
Your range issue is about the angle of the bridge. The more it's angled, the more you can pull up. The flip side is that you end up having less room to lower pitch as a result. As for the pricing concern, you have to understand that these niche products have to be priced higher, especially when they're new, because they need to recoup the costs of development, they need to pay for the marketing so people find out about the product, and to be able to afford better production methods. If this sticks around and becomes popular enough, the price will drop, as the more you produce in a given production run, the less it will cost to produce each individual unit. You just need to be sure you can sell that many quickly enough.
@sophiemilton59394 жыл бұрын
How far up your Strat trem will go is dependant on the angle it starts at - you need to leave room between the trem and the body for the trem to go far enough to raise the pitch by a full tone. Adjust the "claw" in the spring cavity on the back of the Strat. Loosen the two screws that anchor the claw to the body, thus allowing the claw to move towards the guitar tail and therefore the trem to rise slightly from the body. Don't go mad and over adjust. Try one full turn anti-clockwise on each of the two screws in the claw. Regarding "raising pitch by a full tone". The string pitch change from trem movement is unfortunately not the same for every string, which is why a chord does not stay in tune if you dive-bomb it. The 2nd and 3rd strings pitch changes a lot, the 1st string very little. This is a consequence of the string+saddle contact point being different distances from the trem pivot point, both in height and string (intonation) length. You can increase the trem-induced pitch-change of a string by raising the saddle height a little, but that's a trade-off with comfort and playability. If you want to lessen the effect of the other strings dropping in pitch as you apply an upwards finger-bend to another string, use more springs in the back - obviously, you need to then adjust the claw to get the system back in the best position. The rapid increase in spring tension decreases the amount of pitch loss of the other un-bent strings - the downside is that you need to use more force on the trem arm to get the effects you did before. An adjustment of touch, but it can be made. It also changes how you bend, because with a trem you bend extra to compensate for the way the strings are stretching underneath in response to the increased string tension. I and probably other players often compensate for that as best we can by sometimes using hand-heel-pressure on the bridge as we bend. It's an unconscious thing. Conversely you can set a trem system up to be feather touch on the arm. The downside of that is the degree of pitch drop etc when you bend.

@@waynesmith7487 For me, nothing, cause I do all my guitar mods... But, even if I have all that money I really prefer to pay for something that really costs the price and not to buy a 5×2 cm piece of a cheap metal that the manufacturing costs like $10

Amazing!!! This is absolutely genius and will forever change the way strat players view that trem bar. A little on the expensive side but well worth the investment. Thank you.

This will infringe on my penchant for behind the nut bends. Plus; is it a weighty piece of kit? Would it cause headstock dives with a strap on?

My favorite Strat trick for floating/tuning is to play it till it's out of tune then bring it back into tune (as best you can) by tightening and loosening the trem springs. Cycle through that about 3 times and they stay pretty good. Hey Darrell, there's a video idea for you :)

This is awesome! I prefer locking tuners, but may give it a try. I really appreciate these kind of reviews, in addition I also like the thorough dive into the decent quality budget stuff! You’ve inspired me to start a youtube channel (prepping tonight’s upload as I type this!), moreso based on helping other guitarists to improve skills and simplify shredding

Not bad but at $175.00, it wouldn't be worth it for a cheap guitar. On your gorgeous Strat, absolutely. Great vid!

Here is what the one man company told me about the NutBuster and its cost. "Hi Peter, Thank your for the feedback! Believe me, I would love nothing more than to be able to lower the price so that way more people could try out the Guitar NutBuster and experience all of it's benefits...and I will be able to in the future! This is just a one man start-up operation here with a dream and completely self funded. My overall investment in this devise from engineering, molds, prototypes, casting, secondary machining, custom parts made, plating, patents, and I can go on...makes the current price I'm asking barely even cover my costs let alone actually make any profit! When my current supply is near depletion and I'm able to re-order a substantially larger inventory in the future, I will definitely be able to lower the price as my overall cost margins will be much lower allowing me to sell in volume and make the Guitar NutBuster much more affordable for all guitar players to enjoy. This thing is built like a tank and will basically last forever, can easily be moved from one guitar to another, non damaging to the guitar or having to swap out parts...there are definitely a lot of pluses here and my hope in the near future is that every guitarist will be able to afford to have one on their guitar! Thanks again for your feedback and kind regards, ~Tony" I guess I was kinda arrogant.

Doesn't that just highlight that Strats have a tuning stability problem that Fender should work on ... ?
