Good video 👍It took me a few sessions to get through the whole video, which isn't a complaint- just a busy day. Nice looking lumber 😊

@@Helmsburgsawmill I like a long video now and then, just this one happened to be on a work day 😄

Nice sticks Ian. I know it must take all of your focus to saw, but wear a mic and think out loud. It's nice to know what a sawyer is thinking about a cut or a log.

At what stage in the sawing of a log do you decide whether it can provide a rail tie?
@Helmsburgsawmill14 минут бұрын
Shewww that’s a deep question! But I try to decide before I start sawing. Of course it changes a lot. And then you have your follow up protocols to maximize yield from there. Hollow spots pop up. Or the log grades out better then I thought, and I decide to rip it to a single cant instead of a tie

Is five quarter 1 1/4 thickness and do you cut to set width or the best you can achieve
@Helmsburgsawmill17 минут бұрын
It’s 1 3/8. Close!! You add 1/8 to anything in quarter. And the best I can achieve. All the grade lumber is getting milled

how long does cut lumber need to dry
@Helmsburgsawmill11 сағат бұрын
It depends on the thickness and conditions. The buyer will be kiln drying all of this
@davidmackenzie540310 сағат бұрын
Depends of the kind of tree moisture content very important when running a dry kiln
