Belichick and Napolean Bonapart have similarities. Bonapart won many great battles that are still studied today, he ruled an empire for a few years, but he ultimately lost everything at Waterloo. Belichicks Waterloo was Tom Brady's departure.

@johnlinks anyone else you can name has flip flopped from week to week except Tom when he said after the Germany game Kraft will separate from Belichick. Many others did not believe that could be true, and Tom was always a big supporter and superman of the Patriots. However, not this year and he was right every week. Some fans are also clueless. Everyone else now in the Boston media will now pretend "they knew it all along". Sunday against the Jets was their worst loss and summarizes why Belichick needs to go. He nose dived the Pat's from the day Brady left, and he shouldn't have left

If today is the end of THE ERA in the New England career of Bill Belichick, it was a helluva ride. Still as gifted as any defensive mind that ever stood on any sideline, if it is the end, it will be Bill's offensive shortsightedness that crippled his continuing head coaching of his dynasty. He attempted in the post-Brady years to continue the patchwork, role-player mentality in assembling both OLinemen and skill players to benefit from the unprecedented excellence that Brady led the franchise with. Excellence that Belichick drilled into his greatest acquisition, and which coerced Brady to sign a continuing series of contracts and extensions below his sky-high market value to sustain for most of two decades. Any listing of Bill's best defensive roster moves would read like a 200-page novel by Sun Tzu, but below (should anyone care to review) are one attentive fan's summary of The Hoodie's deeply-limited stellar offensive acquisitions: The Top 10 Best Offensive Moves Belichick ever made as a Pats GM/Coach: 1) 2001/2--Brady In, Bledsoe (and his contract) Out. 2) 2010--Trades twice to secure Rob Gronkowski in the top third of the 2nd Round. 3) 2007--Fleeces rival Dolphins for Slot God WR Wes Welker, promptly locks Wes up with a 5-year contract. 4) 2007--Uses a trio of trades to grab Randy Moss--and the pick that will yield 1st Rounder LB Jerod Mayo (Bill's reported heir apparent Head Patriots Coach)--from the bowels of Oakland purgatory. 5) 2005--Uses final 1st Round selection on perennial All-Pro Guard Logan Mankins. 6) 2001--Trades up to grab Tackle Matt Light in 2nd Round to blindside-protect Bledsoe/Brady. 7) 2016--Takes Guard Joe Thuney with first of three 3rd Round picks (Only offensive move in the last decade worth remembering fondly) 8 ) 2009--Uses FOURTH 2nd-Round draft pick to grab German Giant Sebastian Vollmer at Tackle from Houston Cougars via Dusseldorf. 9) 2004--Trades 2nd round pick to Bengals for malcontent monster RB Corey Dillon, to improve upon 2-time Super Bowl Champ Antowain Smith, and secure the last back-to-back titles in the NFL. 10) 2011--Acquires UFA Guard/Legend Brian Waters, when Chiefs wouldn't meet his price. Immediately the best and most decorated Interior Offensive Lineman the franchise had since John Hannah.

The Mac Jones thing is a big ‘who cares’ at this point. Now that there is some distance from his benching, these things signal that MJ has big issues: the dirty play crap, the lack of fundamentals under pressure (feet), and the inability to make the throws downfield that were there. Belichick is vindictive. Why is Jacoby Myers not here (because he told the truth last year) is just the most recent example (there are so many others). Revenge is petty and reflects that Belichick cared about control over results. I can’t see that MJ is going to suceed anywhere in the league at this point. He has genuine character issues and it took me time to see them.

Not taking anything away from the GOAT TB12, but Brady went to a team that was already stacked before the unretirement of another GOAT, Rob Gronkowski that led to another SB win. The last 2 years has hurt BB's legacy, but lets not forget who drafted Brady, developed him early in his career, and started him over Bledsoe. Not every SB win was just TB. Defense, offense, and kickers played a part in those wins as well...

Hey Tom, Always look forward to your content!!!😁👍 I think you you have hit my point in past posts. So if I were to sum things up. The success from three levels that contributed to the success of the Patriots from 2001-2018. You had the right people from the front office, coaching and players with insightful planning to adjust to competition from year to year to be prepared for all challenges from other NFL teams at that time. After then pieces were pulled away from those three areas. Unfortunately Bill miscalculated compensating for these losses thinking that his experience could make up for this not realizing his acumen could not make up for weaker personnel, assistants and front office staff that made his life more comfortable after 2018. This wasn’t just Brady. It takes an entire organization to succeed. Unfortunately Bill didn’t realize having a continued plan for not only the best possible roster, but also the best assistants and front office are essential! No days off! No half efforts!!!

I think the hardest place for "Next Man Up Do Your Job" to apply is the assistant coaching ranks. That usually takes years. I'll take the Scar-McDaniels-Patricia-Flores-Judge lineup over the Scar-Weis-Crenel-Mangini-Seely predecessor, personally. Bill recognized coaching talent as surely as player talent, if not more so. If he relocates, some coaches will follow him quicker than players.

To anyone saying bill ruined Mac I say to you that you where ignoring all the red flags his rookie year. His last 5 games his rookie where a precursor to the rest of his career. Bills had to major mistakes in the last 6 years getting rid of Brady and drafting Mac,and bill never really wanted Mac. Only drafted him because Kraft started applying pressure to win now. The fact that Kraft still thinks the kid can play is very telling. I gotta give Kraft a little bit of blame for the current state of the team. She should of kept doing what was working let bill do his thing and stay out that realm, or if he no longer thrusted him Todo so fire him. Me personally I blame the fact that we even drafted Mac on Kraft. Pretty sure he just wanted Mac to be the quarterback so he could make Kraft Mac and cheese commercial.😂

At this stage of his career, Bill should have insisted that they spend the pick on getting an experienced QB Even this year, Lamar was available - but they did not make a move As we can see Bill can still coach up a defense - year after year his teams finish in the top 10 It is the offense where he falls short - seems clueless on how to draft receivers Brady masked those deficiencies - he took care of the offense & they won big That's what Bill needed - an experienced QB who could take care of the offense I have no clue why this huge brain trust thought drafting a QB was the way to go & it seems they still want to go that way This time it is harder to trade that pick because it is so high & if they trade that pick and get an experienced QB and that guy gets injured, they will never hear the end of it

The Boston Celtics won 11 championships in 13 years. You guys just went 4-13 and you still can't summon an ounce of humility. If it weren't for Brady, the Patriots and "the tone setter" Belichick would have been a .500 team. Bill always got rid of players & coaches, even exceptional players when either their performance dropped off, they were going to be finically unviable or were a problem. He was ruthless when it came to the team, problem is when he applys that standard/methodology & culture to the team then he needs to apply it to himself & he isn't. The team has performed poorly since Brady left & it is down to him. He needs to apply that ruthless decision making to himself if he's not an asset to the team he should accept it & make the tough decision just like he has done for all those other players/coaches etc.

They are ok at interior O-line, running back, and probably Tight end if they re sign Hunter Henry/Pharoh Brown. They need a number one receiver, 1-2 tackles and a QB. It is a lot, but definitely not every position. Douglas is a solid option in the slot and Bourne is also potentially ok as a number 2 receiver. The need at receiver is exaggerated by the bad QB play. I know these talking heads like to pretend this team is years away, but the reality is if they hit on the right QB who can elevate his team mates they can compete next year. I think Douglas could absolutely surprise the league if he was playing with a competent passer.@@daneaton8567

If reports are true about Bill Belichick, In not allowing O’Brien to bring on his own personnel, that is just one big problem. The fact that players disappear or get traded the moment they disagree with them may be another problem. The fact is the patriots are a miserable team to watch. If you’re a fan of football, I don’t suggest watching them. I know people are fanatics and follow them no matter what. I am not that type of fanatic. I do like football. If the patriots retain Bill Belichick, I will be watching the Raiders next year. Yeah I know I’m not a real fan that’s fine. However, if Bill Belichick is on the patriots next year, I do not expect them to be any better than this year, so… Good luck.

Phil and Tom: sorry that you guys are covering an irrelevant team. You guys are really talented and I will keep watching. I’ve been writing since the early part of the season that the bigger picture was about COLLAPSE. There was no element of the team except the defense that was playing to “NFL average”. Offense and special teams were terrible and this is about teaching and coaching. Belichick owns that and his performance is consistent with a collapsing system. The discussion going forward is about how to rebuild from a collapse. Yet, I think the Kraft’s are going to appoint Mayo, see if BOB wants to take full charge of the O (assuming Mayo is ok), and hire an independent GM. This path is not a rebuild but an attempt to hold onto to the vanished era. I don’t think it will work.

Can you imagine if BB goes to another team and wins a SB. That would mean the Pats kicked two GOAT HOF'ers out the door just to watch them go win SB's with other teams while their own franchise sinks to the bottom of the league.

I agree with you. TB12 went to a stacked team and won. BB can do the same. Let's face it, if we had a half decent offensive line and a qb that can actually manage the game, we're looking at a 11 win season easily.

Listen guys you guys and I know that nothing is gonna change craft is the cheapest owner in the NFL history. He isn’t gonna make any kind of blockbuster trades or pay any superstars. It’s not gonna happen so we’re gonna be in last place for years to come because he’s gonna hire Mayo as a coach. The guy has no experience. He gets to pay him peanuts and keep the rest of the staff intact because he’s so cheap.

The wise thing to do is keep Belichick as head coach, hire someone as general manager that can put together a solid draft, free agency to build the patriots team we know and is used to. If Kraft moves on from BILL, and brings in another coach, we better be ready for at least a 3-5 year " Get It Together ", seasons. When Bledsoe went down, Belichick drafted a total jewel in Brady to smoothly transition into the dynamic dynasty we had for 20+ years. Mac and Zappe is not it.. when Tom left, that was the beginning of a fall and rebuild of this team. Between bratty fans, and these sports idiots talking down about Belichick and the patriots, it's led to this, instead of everyone realizing it will take time. AGAIN, "IF" the krafts let go of coach, we better buckle up, because it will not be a pretty ride..
