When your short of breath and your heart rate increases, and you can feel it pounding through your chest, your legs/ankles and feet ache, the body is letting you know the effort has been well worth it, and the long fun ramble is doing you so good!!

The cliff top scenery especially around St Aldhelms was breath taking. Never been there but thank you for taking me with you, so beautiful. I'd love to see inside Chapel. I admire you so much, and how like life's difficulties, we hv to take one step at a time. I was absolutely terrified for you on the cliff edge passes, please be super careful. We don't want to lose you Terry!

Ah, thank you so much 😀 I always make sure I’m safe when I’m out. I did try to film inside the chapel before but it is so dark in there as there is only a small window that it didn’t come out very well. I’ll take a light next time 😀
@chuffers777875 ай бұрын
Yes there are vlogs showing inside the Chapel I have found now. I hope ankle not giving you too much grief now after all that, well done. Maybe on days you can't walk you can do some more lovely mindfulness videos of local flora fauna as you have a gift of filming such.

I think that I left the comment you mention at 29.50. The place I had in mind was Blackers Hole, where you go down into an old quarry, which is about 800m further west from where you were. I’d be happy to meet up and show you if you are keen to find it. Glad you enjoyed the climbers’ path. I find that the eroded section is more scary than the scramble down to sea level, where at least you are on solid rock. The anchors (metal stakes) by the climbers’ path are not normally used for abseiling, as it’s easier to scramble down to the ledge below this section of the cliff. When the lead climber gets to the top of a climb, they secure themselves to these anchors while they take in the rope as their partner climbs up.
@terryyarrow12305 ай бұрын
Ah yes, I know that quarry. Thanks for the info re the metal stakes, that makes sense 😀 I’m going to go back there and drop down the slope to sea level - I didn’t have time to do it on this visit 😀

Thank you Terry, that was really lovely - the sound of the skylarks made it feel as though I was actually there. I'm hoping to do a day trip to Swanage by coach soon and I thought I'd have a wander along the coast path during the time that we're allotted - I don't think I'll be going along that climbers' path though, it would be a long walk home if I was to miss the coach back! Do hope your ankle didn't complain too much the following day.

Congrats Terry 🧙♂on completing this 15 miler, well done. Absolutely gorgeous, no not you! The weather, the scenery and the walk. Did this very same one about 30 years ago with my brother, but we decided to call it quits at the coastguard hut and head back to Worth, so your stamina puts me to shame, even when I was a much younger man 🙁. Last time I walked between Winspit and St. Aldhelms there were about 30 woolly-bear caterpillars on the path, I'd never seen so many. The bench at the top of Emmets Hill must be the most welcome one in Dorset I reckon, the seat of my trousers have polished it a fair few times. I'm not trying to teach my granny to suck eggs, but I noticed you wear walking shoes. Wouldn't boots give your arthritic ankle more support? I always wear boots (unless it's super, super hot), I find I often turn my ankle in shoes over uneven ground. Just saying.
@terryyarrow12305 ай бұрын
Ah, thank you so much 😀 The caterpillars must have made an amazing sight. I think you are right about that seat, it is perfectly positioned 😂 My footwear is always boots now and has been for some time for the reason you mention. They are textile boots rather than leather because the latter are just too heavy and they make the ankle worse. These lighter weight ones are a compromise but it works 😀

Sorry Terry, my mistake, I thought they looked like shoes when you were having your lunch. Funnily enough I set off for Worth last Thursday, but owing to a bout of sciatica, which I've been suffering from the last year, I had to stop at Yeovil. After a walk around and a coffee I thought I'd try to drive on further and stopped for lunch at the Thimble Inn. After, I found Lyscombe, and hope to do that walk in the autumn, sciatica permitting.

I would recommend looking into lightweight and minimalist gear. Researching, investing and trialling lightweight load-outs and gear is fun and would help your joints, but not your wallet :( Plenty of fair weather left in the year to try, before the winter hits and minimalist runs are more risky. Thank you for the wonderful video. Take care and keep going 👍
@terryyarrow12305 ай бұрын
Ah, thank you so much 😀 Since making this video, I have managed to get out on a couple of short backpacks and I am now hoping to get some lighter gear (tent and sleeping bag at least). I will then hopefully try another one in September 😀

@@terryyarrow1230 I have been looking into getting a camera. I take stills from my GoPro 12 video, but it's not the same as a proper camera. Which camera do you use? Do you have any recommendations? I am always torn between taking equipment and recording my runs so I can enjoy them again in the future and to capture magic moments. But the camera and batteries weigh so much and it's tempting to leave them behind. Also a proper camera is not as waterproof as the GoPro.
@terryyarrow12305 ай бұрын
@@niafer9444 Well, I use a Fuji X-T4 mostly but it would be too heavy for running. On my lighter trips I take a Sony RX100 which is much more manageable and still takes great pictures. I think mine is a mark iii

As always, a very enjoyable video to watch love that close up detail, visited that Ringsted bay last week on a nice hot day and was a bit surprised as I was heading towards that step ladder you showed on a previous video under them cliffs as did not know that nudists were sunning themselves on the end part of beach just before the rocky section, the paragliders were out too even a spit fire doing acrobatics up above the sea I think, anyway the two bottom steps of that ladder are missing they should have used stainless steel nuts and bolts, did not venture all the way up to zig zag path this time although though about it, as waiting for dodgy knee to get a bit better but got some sunny video and photos of the place for a change. Must get a walking stick like yours, oh there was a bloke heading that way that looked a bit like you too so I guess there must be more than one of you or just a glitch in the matrix. Oh ! and noticed some metal posts that looked bolted into rock at front of Winspit Quarry too earlier, wonder what that is all about.
@terryyarrow12305 ай бұрын
Ah, thank you 😀 Maybe it was me that you saw as my videos usually go out a few weeks after I walk, as it takes time to edit and process them 😀 The ladder has crumbled before and been replaced - I think you can actually scramble up further along anyway. Re the metal posts, they are for climbers to attach their abseiling ropes to 😀 Ringstead is not officially a nudist beach but it has kind of become accepted there.

@@terryyarrow1230About them posts, i'll elaborate, there were 3 of them a few metres high positioned out on the flat area in front of them caves at Winspit where the ramp and ruined buildings are and video I took was on 14 July 2024, don't know when you did this video but one of them should of been visable from the point when you took the video from on top cliff whilst on your way to St aldhelm's looking down on the area where the ramp is from near that stone bench up that side, and it was not there. So these posts I think are for another reason as very odd for absseiling as not anywhere near any cliff edges and being so tall with some device on top. Just little details like this bother me as never seen the like of such posts in that sector of coastline, a nigly detail them out of place tall posts. Some survey maybe as an abseiling rope draging across all that flat area would just trip people up walking there if fixed to them posts even at ground level.
@terryyarrow12305 ай бұрын
@@LandOverview Oh, I see, definitely not abseiling anchors then. I don't remember seeing them when I was there. They were going to do some surveying on the caves to see how safe they are so I guess it may have been something to do with that.

@@terryyarrow1230 I noticed it on drone video which is maybe what you should use down some of them risky pathways, apparently an 82 year woman from Pool fell round that Winspit upper path way according to Swanage News recently and I would not be surprised if they Bar off them Quarry entrances there soon, anyway take care.
