It's interesting seeing how the crossfire system works up close. I actually have an '82, and it's pretty hard to find content on the L83s that isn't just ragging on it. Cool stuff

The best way to look at those Injectors is with a timing light because it appears to stop the flow so that you can see if the injector is spitting and starting to clog up. Obliviously it doesn't matter what spark plug wire you hook your timing light to you just need a strobe action. I'm a old GM tech and that's what we did back in the day. Hope this helps.

I'm 50 yod and glad I found your channel. I love Crossfire Fuel Injection even though I've never driven one. I remember seeing the name on Corvettes and Camaros when I was young. I didn't find out how it work until more than 10 years later. I wish someone would come out with a new version of it. I would love to see it on classic cars. It would be something different than a 4 barrel carb.
@Mikes84Corvette3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The Crossfire gets a bad rap but can be very reliable if maintained.
@skylinefever5 ай бұрын
People in a way do build new Cross Fire Injection. Back in the day, there were race engines with a crossram intake manifold and had two carbs. Some guys that love the look buy replica crossram intakes, then put throttle body injectors and standalone EFI on it.

Very Interesting stuff ! it's nice seeing someone on KZbin posting new content about the crossfire C4s I've chatted with a few actual owners of the crossfire cars say that they are actually pretty reliable and not bad like everyone makes them out to be
@Mikes84Corvette3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Mine has been very reliable (knocks on wood). I think they get a bad rap because they are not as powerful as later engines - and a lot of people don't want to bother how to figure them out - to get them to run right. They would rather just throw a carb on them - which is going backwards in my opinion.

Hey Mike, great video, learned a lot! Had a cross-fire in an old Z-28 I bought for my wife. Ran great, lots of low end torque. Such a simple F.I. system... Thanks from a former resident of Ridgewood in Bergen County, up near Saddle River and the NY state line...

Cool, thanks. I'm currently refurbishing a 1988 manual coupe, in which I'm happy to have the L98 TPI engine with aluminum heads. It's a nice improvement over the 1984 L83 Crossfire setup. But, I'm really glad that some guys, like you, have decided to preserve original 1984 C4s, even though the Crossfire system (and some other quirks) can be a pain to deal with.

I think your next step is to clean and rebuild the throttle bodies, and then switch to Ethanol Free Fuel…it is an absolute game changer in every possible way. In fact, I would switch FIRST. Run a few tanks of it through with some SeaFoam to get all the old fuel out of the system, rebuild then go Ethanol Free 100% moving forward. Probably make a great multi part video series for you as well. Liked and Subscribed!!!

Thanks for the video, Crossfire is intriguing system. Mine is converted to work without termac cover (as it was broken and previous owner dumped it) and i have 2 smaller air filters on top of each TBI (look a bit like 2 carburetors) as well as a functional hood scoop ( reverse cowl) for better breathing. I always love watching those 2 injectors spraying, it is so unique. By the way, I bet the revving was done by a lady as it was very conservative, the butterflies did not open even 1/3 :)

friend... my car has been in the most normal state... I just changed the spark plug wires and spark plugs and it didn't want to turn on again....thinking it was the tps, I changed it to a new standard one and calibrated everything perfectly .54 and it doesn't start... I'm thinking of putting the old spark plugs and the old wires back... but I also realized that when I try to start the car I see that two large drops fall from the graft but it doesn't come out like a shower.. only two large drops x tbi... is it normal like this or should it initially come out like a shower...???

@Mikes84Corvette2 жыл бұрын
Wow! From what I've learned always the basics - gas, spark, compression. 10 year old gas is probably bad. Plus the fuel filter, fuel pump/sock are probably bad too. I would also check all the fuel lines to make sure they aren't bad. New battery too! Clean all that out - see what happens. If nothing - check for spark. Good luck!!

The jets aren't spraying a nice cone shape, definitely need cleaning or replacing, I'm guessing the sputtering was simply the air cleaner lid being off. Be awesome to see a modified lid with clear perspex, giving you the ability to rev it properly. I helped an American soldier posted in Darwin, Australia 🇦🇺 who'd brought his 84 corvette with him, when he broke down with a broken fan belt, made a friend for life. I was blown away by the crossfire, it looked so cool compared to a 84 Holden Commodore or Ford Falcon engine bay, they still had carbies! 😂 😂 😂

Hello! I have been on the fence about getting a 1984 Cross Fire Corvette with 28,000 miles on it. The guy is asking $9,000, car is really clean… What’s your opinion? I’m on the fence as I read so many bad comments about the CrossFire…
@Mikes84Corvette3 жыл бұрын
First I would suggest downloading the Corvette DNA app. You can put in all the info on the car you are looking at and get a value. In my opinion, 9000 sounds high. Second people rag on the crossfire because it doesn’t make a lot of power compared to later engines which is true. It’s also ragged on because people say it doesn’t run well which is BS. They require some patience and knowledge. But are dead reliable when set up correctly and not messed with. Unfortunately there are not many people around that really know how to work on these engines. I don’t but I have a local mechanic who does. If a mechanic can’t plug a scanner into a car to diagnose its problems they don’t want to work on it - and therefore slam the engine as bad. My 2 cents. Good luck!!
