I would like to see more parasol videos. I love learning about them. I have one that I can’t date, as it does not seem there is a lot of info out there on them. Thanks for sharing your collection and knowledge. 😀

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm certainly not the most knowledgeable and what I know is always changing, but there wasn't a lot of information out there so I thought I would share what I know :). I'm working on getting my 1830s/1840s parasol video together at some point, but my collection ends essentially at 1865 with very few later examples so I don't have information on later ones. They are sooo fun to collect and learn about, though!

Just as a matter of "info".. Small, black, folding marquee frames were manufactured well into the 1910's, it's factually "muddy" to say that folding frames disappeared after 1867.. They can be seen in the catalogs of Jordan Marsh, and other department stores throughout the 1890s, and later. Is your french frame made by Emile Chargeat? I own several Chargeat frames, his mechanisms for tilting the canopy are amazing, and can be tricky to figure out. I'm also curious.. the frame that had the stretch-knit canopy.. does it have a maker's stamp on the hinge-cover?

Thank you! I am still learning so I appreciate people who know more than I letting me know when I am wrong so I can fix the information I tell others. I made this video a year ago and I have already learned a few things that I misrepresented in this video and my 1850s video so I hope to eventually redo them. Yes, the French one is Emile Charageat :). I did not want to butcher the name on screen so I left it out. I can see where there is a hinge that will tilk, but I cannot for the life of me figure it out. I have pulled, pushed, and tapped every which way I can think of and it won't budge. I had another that the little metal nail bit had come loose and it prevented the tilting mechanism from working. A gentle tap with a mallet fixed that one right away and I have it working again. This one I just cannot figure out. The purple one that had the poor recover job does not have a maker's stamp on the hinge cover or anywhere else that I saw when I re-recovered it. The only parasol I have that is marked is the E. Charageat one. Others with their original covers and linings may be marked further up towards the finial, but the only one I have that is definitely marked is the E. Charageat one.
