Mrs H, lovely floral arrangement. Very nice shave. I like when you leave the bits in when things dont go as planned. Alot of our shaved dont. You mentioned your father and american after shaves and how he would have loved it. Im the exact way with anything british made. I grew up watching british tv and movies in my house. My mother loved them. So if its british made, im all over it lol. Even though ive never been. No shave for me today. So have a great rest of thr week.

There are a lot of those Laurel razors, still with their paperboard boxes, packs of Laurel blades, and tins, available on American eBay.

Lady H deserves some laurels for her bouquets! You made a nice recovery from the rusty blade mishap. I'll be surprised if you can find any Laurel proprietary blades that are any better than yours. Certainly not at a price I'd be willing to pay. Like you said, at least you have the Laurel razor for your collection. Good luck if you attempt to trim a modern blade to fit. G'day Paul, nice shave. The arrangement by Mrs H is beautiful as always, thanks to her talent. No big loss with the Laurel razor, stuff happens and yes you can modify a modern blade. Nice shave there Paul interesting to see how they made the blades proprietary I’m sure one can modify a modern blade to fit in there just to try it once but it would definitely be a hassle to do it every time you want to use the razor great shave see you Sunday

Hi Paul! Looks like Laurel's proprietary blade system could have caused them to close up shop. Nevertheless, you may consider drilling a hole in the middle of a new razor; one that matches the size of the Laurel.

Found this Information online The idea behind this was, that Laurel Blades would fit any razor (including Gillette) but only Laurel Blades fit a Laurel Dumbbell Razor - so they hoped to steal some of the markets from Gillette, obviously, in hindsight, the plan didn't succeed. Other companies also tried this - such as Ward & Son (Wardonia) etc. The coating on most razors before the 1980s was Bright Nickel, with very early razors being silver plated. Yours will most likely be Nickel and hopefully not of the proprietary blade variety.
