They didn't. Most mobile home parks in Michigan do not. It's not required. In fact, many COUNTIES do not have community shelters where you can go before the storm hits. All the shelters you hear about have been opened after the tornado went through. Pavilion Estates was very lucky in that there were no fatalities or serious injuries. I want to say that if you live in a house with a basement and you know someone who lives in a mobile home park that has no shelter, please be proactive. If you know that severe weather is headed your way, CALL them and tell them to come over (provided you don't live in the direction of the storm). People who live in these parks should not have to scramble around calling or texting people to see if they are home and available. And you really have to be on top of things, don't wait until the phone alert or the sirens; they really don't give very much lead time. I follow Michigan Storm Chasers and I knew about 15-20 minutes ahead of time that I needed to leave my mobile home and find shelter--this was WELL before there was an official warning issued for my area. I arrived just in time for the first phone alert to go off; the siren went off about 10 minutes later. Now here is the sad part. There are many people who know that I live in a mobile home park without a shelter, yet only ONE person contacted me--and that was around 15 minutes after the siren blew. By that time it would have been far too late for me to seek shelter at their house.

@@redwatch1100well cause climate change tornados will soon be EF6 and EF7 which is 500 mph tornados. It will happen soon. Like 2-3 yrs. We only have 8yrs left then everything will change and florida will become tiny, Louisiana wont be a boot and Texas will be Texless. Not kidding either. The Democrat politicians do not lie to us. The Republicans try and say nothing will happen but they are in big construction pockets and big insurances wallet. Prepare now. Move into middle America where it will be much safer. Hurricanes are going to very likely getting two more categories as well. Soon we will see 600mph storms the size of America and 300mph winds will be felt in Missouri. Get ready to hunker down for weeks at a time

Me too, I hope they had some sort of underground shelter for the community. But never would you catch me (no matter how poor I am) live in a trailer park in area where storms like these show up. Reminds me of Florida's trailer parks, totally destroyed by hurricanes. Remember Andrew?
@theresemalmberg955
@theresemalmberg955 Ай бұрын
They do not have any kind of shelter for this or many other communities in Michigan. Nor are there any public shelters for people to go to before the storm hits. As far as "never would you catch me" goes--MOST of us who live in mobile home parks don't have any choice, especially if you are on a fixed income. This is why these places exist. There are websites such as Mobile Home University which tell you how you can make big money investing in mobile home parks because you basically have a captive clientele. All you need to do is find out what the average apartment in your area rents for and then set your lot rent accordingly so that yours is the cheapest place around. You want to own a park in a community where housing costs are high but which also has a lot of people in low-income situations who cannot afford anything else. Yes, they actually tell people that! And yes, that is predatory behavior, but you know, people who live in mobile home parks, well, I guess you could say that it sucks to be them, and maybe on some level they deserve it because they are poor and don't have many options . . . It's so easy to stand on the outside and judge, isn't it? This particular park that was hit has a lot of low-income people and retirees; and I can tell you that even if they had insurance, it's probably not going to cover a lot of their expenses. That's the part the news isn't going to tell you about. Some may be in a position where they can pick up the pieces and go back to some semblance of normality; but for others, especially those whose homes were completely destroyed, finding a new place to live that they can afford to live in is going to be a struggle. Their lives are not going to rebound all that quickly.

They don't, most tornadoes hit nothing. Trailer Parks getting hit is no more common than any other building getting hit, the damage is just obviously more severe in cases where it hits trailers compared to actual structures. Otherwise the average deaths of tornado season would be far worse than 71 per year considering the US averages 1,300 tornadoes per year.
