My 125 gallon planted tank has an Ick infection at the moment. I am Treating with Kordon's "Ick Attack", which is all natural and safe for sensitive and scaleless fish, such as my Clown Loaches. Here is a good look at the symptoms and discussion about the life cycle of the protozoan parasite known as Ick (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis)

I've always treated ich successfully with a combination of heat, DAILY water changes and Seachem Paraguard. Not saying it's the only cure, but it's always worked for me. I think the daily water changes is an important factor to as the clean water helps the fishes immune system overcome the infection.

Hmmm, maybe move the rainbows to a separate quarantine then pump up the temperature

My understanding is that raising the heat simply accelerates the lifecycle of the ich, so that you don't have to wait so long for the ich to enter its vulnerable stage - maybe some strains of ich can't take the heat but some definitely can, and you can never tell which variety you've got. So I wouldn't recommend relying on heat alone (this is aimed more at other commenters than you, Dan). You still need medication or salt to kill the ich off for sure. I've only treated ich once, helped my sister with her corydoras and we used salt as we weren't sure how to get an effective dose of medication without harming the cory (limited fish medicine available here in Australia). It took 2 weeks to clear as when we started treatment there were a few parasites in different stages so it took a few lifecycles to catch them all. As we'd read that corydoras do not cope with salt well, we upped the salinity slowly and the fish was fine, active and still eating throughout the treatment process. Of all the illnesses that I've seen in fish I think ich is one of the easiest to understand and easiest to treat. Best of luck with clearing it out of this tank!

soaking a fish in a 5% salt water solution for 5-10 minutes can kill all the ick that's on a fish

Hi nice tank and thats a pretty big outbreak. I battled it in my kids beta tank. I thought it was the end for her beta ther weak imo. It was so beautiful RED/BLUE crazy bright crowntail beta. Cost a bomb too most expensive fish. I can't remeber how i beat it now. I know i turned up the heat more than abit. Heat speeds up their life cycle. I used a chemical too but mayb just stress coat or something. I honestly remember thinking this wont work its too easy. But it did work and fast. 3 days i was happy 1 week it was normal again. I found the tips on KZbin some ghetto tips lol and they work. Turning the heat up. No no no actually i used a blue chem and stress coat. The liquid blue chem changed suction cups colour etc to pale blue. Great product. Now. Those clown loaches i remember something about them being stronger or weaker to this stuff. Bcos they have no scales like normal fish or something. Could you remind me. Or theu are extra sensitive to stuff. They have spikes in their heads too never grab a clown loach people. 12in loach has spikes that could go through your while hand and out the other side lol. Also get stuck in nets etc. I kept them for months till i learned that.

Yeah, you definitely don't want to pick up any loach. They are considered "scaless" fish, but actually have tiny scales imbedded in their skin. You still have to treat with meds very carefully and follow the instructions for treating "scaless" fish.

Dan Hiteshew Great refresher mate. Defo one of my favoured fish. Im 6in closer to ordering my new aquarium lol. Edging closer each day. I just dont fancy the upkeep lol. But i could minimise it with planting and external filters mayb.

Just put temperature up slowly. As far as 29, 30 degrees. Add extra aeration. Leave for couple weeks. The ich can't handle this temperature and will die. Feed garlic and they will leave the host. If that fails esha exit has cleared ich in one of my tanks in 3 days and safe for clown loach.

That sucks man I'm sorry to hear. How did you get it? Jack up the temp. Loaches have no scales so it's tough. Tetras are super sensitive too

Shit happens its unavoidable to contaminate tanks with afew of them. Its an acceptable risk even breeders chance. A wall of tanks tons of fish. But one sump. Most of us get ick buying from fish stores. We've all done it.
