You need the rivers to run somewhat naturally or else you have bigger issues like erosion from lack of vegetation (yes even in the dry the lakebed and water under the sand keeps bushes and other plants/animals alive). That's why every dam has an outflow, and unless its all the way at dead pool it will always have flow going out.

@dougc190 Жыл бұрын
@@sdarms111doug9 well I can agree with you on that. I'm sure they got percolation pods just like they do out here to Central valley of California, but with all the environmental reports and environmentalist just in general even if they'd wanted to at the beginning of the drought they'd probably still be fighting it in court unfortunately. Hell in this stupid State of California they passed a proposition to build dams and have money for it (I didn't vote for it because I thought it was BS) and here we are I don't know how many years later and we still have a built one.
@ribstogo12 Жыл бұрын
@@sdarms111doug9 This is water that had been held back and released, after being release from Horseshoe Dam upstream. There's just been a TON of water this season. But that's just this season, and it's hard to justify the expense and impact of creating another dam when years like this only come very sparingly. Even if we had the water, holding it for multiple years is also a challenge because it evaporates right out of the lake in dry climates like this. That's why some states are exploring aquifer recharge techniques to store it underground for future years.
@dannelson6980 Жыл бұрын
@@sdarms111doug9 How do you think the next reservoir in the chain of reservoirs gets filled if you don't release water to the next one. How do the aquifers get recharged if you don't put water back? Once they subside you have lost that storage and you can't bring it back.
