I've had a Mango-colored ELF, with the standard 3-gears, for four months. I LOVE it. My neighbors all admire it hugely. I am currently riding about ten to eighteen miles a day. Fabulous (and fun) exercise! I no longer take my car the 4 mile round trip to the supermarket, there's a lockable cargo hold under the back window, great for a couple of grocery bags, or for books from the County Library. I am past the age of wanting to ride a 2-wheel bike. I know enough physics to know that a tricycle is more stable (that's why milking stools always were three-legged and not four-legged). And I figure that the Center of Gravity is below my seat, even when I'm in the ELF. We have lots of hills where I live (community built around a drowned river valley) so I would never have bought a tricycle without a helpful motor to get me up all those hills. The seat is very comfortable and is sort of a hammock made of a sturdy mesh, comfortable even in high 90F weather (at which time I ride with the back window rolled up to encourage a breeze to come past me). I ride my ELF even when there is heavy rain. If you're moving forward in heavy rain, the rain blows past the opening. Being out in the rain is good, also: the rain washes the ELF and when I get home I use an old soft bath towel to dry off the windows, and everything sparkles again. I wouldn't want doors: in case there is a cross-wind that hoped to tip me over when I'm stopped at an intersection waiting to make a turn, and when I'm stopped I DO have a chance of a bit of rain slanting in at me if it's coming diagonally. I am not planning to ride the ELF when the roads are junked up with snow and salt and sand - however, where I live the roads are in decent riding condition on days between snowfalls. LOTS of lights on the ELF if you are riding after dark - you're very visible at day AND at night. Some afternoons I'm enjoying myself riding around and I don't want to come home just because it's sunset. No gasoline to buy, no annual registration fees, and it's covered under my Household Insurance not under any extra Auto Insurance. AND it is Made in the USA.
@TimothyFish9 жыл бұрын
+Edith-ann Zecca A three-legged stool is not more stable than a four-legged stool, it just doesn't require the ground to be even for all legs to be on the ground. As for registration fees, that depends on where you live.

No, there is no real problem. Some use bike clip shoes and I use the platform pedals with heel cups. If you foot slips off it is more likely to go up, not slam down onto the pavement. misrepresentation, it's a solar trickle charger, not a solar powers bike. 6 to 8 hours to charge a little bitty battery. after research I find the pebl to better quality
@popeyegordon7 жыл бұрын
No not a trickle charge - 80 watts in high sun is much more than a trickle. For every 10 minutes of sun you can run the motor for one minute. This works so well that I return home with an 80 to 90% charge on my battery after running local errands during which I am parking in the sun and seeing the charge current reduce my motor power draw while riding. The PEBL weighs 35 pounds more and they charge extra for the solar roof. Unlike the ELF's 3 million road miles logged, 850 sold and 5 car collisions with no injuries the PEBL is still unproven, only prototypes exist. I wish them luck as their factory is gearing up right now. Competition is good but as of today April 8 2017 there is no competition on the market for the ELF.

+Timothy Fish : Weeks before I drove 800 miles to Durham NC to test-ride an ELF, I (a) checked with my Independant Insurance Agent who investigated and found an ELF would be covered by my Household Insurance. (b) checked with my City's Police Department who got back to me -- in less than an hour -- that I "may ride the ELF on any of the city streets" and I may ride it on the pedestrian/jogger/bike paths. (Yes, of course, another city's rules could be different.) Naturally, one does not ride an ELF on an Interstate or any road where the minimum speed is 40 mph. You're not permitted to ride a 2-wheel bike on such roads, either. I got the ELF for exercise and for grocery shopping. I've ridden more than one thousand miles in the nine months I've had my ELF. (A good app: MotionX-GPS) It's hilly around here, so really that's five hundred miles downhill, and downhill is no work at all!
@TimothyFish9 жыл бұрын
Edith-ann Zecca It depends on the state laws. In Texas, an ELF is a moped and requires a special license and insurance, but you could legally drive it on the interstate, in most places. You can also drive a bicycle on the interstate, but I don't recall seeing someone try it.
+Timothy Fish : Consequently, one should simply ask one's own local police department to look at the OrganicTransit.com website and advise what the local requirements are. The requirements in another State are immaterial unless one plans to ride an ELF there.
@TimothyFish9 жыл бұрын
Edith-ann Zecca That's assuming that the local police know the answer. You're better off reading the law for yourself or consulting a lawyer. Besides which, the Organic Transit website loves to quote the Federal law and they only mention in passing that it is considered a moped in some states.

And for the bits that don't, it's probably easier to go with more conventional options such as an off road bicycle, a horse, or bringing fuel with you. There are frequently errors in reports like these. The top legal speed for all ebikes is 20 MPH in the US. I have used mine daily for 4 years, I know exactly what it is capable of. I just verified the reporter said it will do 35 with the motor, that is incorrect. I repeat - all legal ebikes in the US have to use an electronic governor to top out at 20 under power. Don't believe exaggerations about how much faster than 20 you could go by pedaling, this is a 160 pound bike. I have never gone over 26 down a hill, a long steep hill could get you moving briefly and dangerously over 30 mph, the the manufacturer absolutely does not recommend that and will tell you the vehicle is not designed for high speeds. The windshield will implode between 45 and 50 mph when towed on a trailer, or the body shell will be torn off the frame by those speeds.

I was just thinking about a solar power bike car and drew a picture of how I want the car to look. I seen on line that a company beat me to it. This small solar car is a wonderful idea, but it does not have any car doors. I would like a solar car that has doors and heat inside of car. I would like to drive this car in the winter or rain. Also when it gets dark, will the Elf keeps running? I would like to drive it at night too.

Beladonna- you don't want doors. We need the ventilation because we are exercising in that small space. You also don't need heat because you are exercising in there and the body shell prevents wind chill. The solar panel charges a large battery that will take you over 20 miles in the dark with the headlights on. In winter we use a studded rear tire.

I need it to go just a hair over 45 (with serious pedaling) b/c I've got a little stretch of country road up here in VA to get to work... maybe a tactical unit? They see me rollin, patrolling. I'll give you guys a buzz. Thanks for the reply!

You do not need it to go 45. This is a sustainable lifestyle vehicle. Shit or get off the pot.
At least five lakh rupees are needed for the hybrids unless they produce them in mass scale, and the state provides huge subsidies and rebates on them.

If I could afford one of them. I would get one and then make me lose this wait. I think i'd have to try to ride that thing. A long distances from Washington State to North Carolina. If I have T on there, I'll never own one. I'd love to have when nobody loves me enough to get me one of these
