That fifth pin on the trailer plug carries the signal for the backup lights. When this is active, the surge brakes become disabled to allow you to back the boat up an incline without the surge brakes activating. It's a neat feature. Previous owner saying that the boat didn't have tilt and trim is just silly. The trim not working could either be one of the solenoids or the main 90A fuse on the trim pump. Hopefully your winter projects worked out well! Isn't boat ownership fun? 😄 Enjoy!

I have a 2000 230 Horizon, very happy as well with it. My dash has the 2 buttons for trim tabs, but the boat was never equipped with them. I do have the button on the throttle to raise and lower the I/O prop. My glove box pops open often so I'm looking to maybe install some kind of magnets or something to help keep it shut when we're cruising along at a good clip. Also my shock on my head cover or whatever that's called is no longer working. And a few other things. But it's been in our family for 20 years. 377 hrs. Just had my gimble bearing replaced, ujoints, seals and bellows and outdrive serviced. Wow what a difference that made - it's quiet as when it was brand new! Did my fuel pump last year, just bought the replacement on Amazon for $185 I think it was. OEM was 800 I think! Don't forget to change the impellar I do mine every other season as I only use it about 40 hours a year and it's in a spring fed, deep lake (clean). Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Cheers! Happy Boating!

Hi Wayne. I am really enjoying your videos. Thanks for the effort you take in making them. I am still pondering over buying a inboard or outboard boat. My concern is the maintenance when it comes to inboard motors. I am a pretty handy guy, but draining oil etc from a inboard sounds challenging.comparing to a car or outboard. Please make videos when you work on the engine :-)

I certainly will be making videos as I work on this one! And yeah - inboard is definitely a different animal and seems much more daunting to work on. One factor that might help you decide is what type of water you'll be in. I hear people who primarily boat in salt water to really strongly prefer outboards and people who are always on freshwater lakes and pull skis and tubes prefer an inboard. Looking forward to the off season and seeing what repairs and improvements you make for your new boat. I am needing a new VHF antenna on our "new" dual console wellcraft. It had a short Shakespeare metal whip before. I'm considering something that gets a tad bit more range (taller) and better quality. In case we go further and out of cell phone range. But mainly would like to see how you mount yours when you do. Right now we have a swivel mount from West Marine near the helm on the side. Just wondering also what size antenna you plan on grabbing. And we need radio and speaker work as well. Keep em coming Wayne. I'm learning with you. Thanks a bunch!

Yeah mounting an antenna nicely on some boats isn't as easily accomplished as it is on other boats.
