That was way back in 2021, where rotors had to be fixed on early batch aircraft. That issue was fixed that same year. As of now almost all F-35's are in service. Cat 1 issues are down to 2, with one of them being green lines appearing on the pilot's headset display when running nightvision. Non-Cat 1 issues include animations running too slowly. Virtually everything can be fixed with a software update.

Well, F35 stealth & 5th Gen are still in development. A combination of AWACS & Ground Radar can detect the fighter. This is the era of fusion sensors from various platforms. No single platform can do the job in this modern era. Better stick with 4.5 gen fighters like F-16 V70 / Gripen E-F / Super Hornet Block III for normal deployment. You don't need a 5th Gen Fighter for QRF or to intercept other aircraft. Let us wait for technology to mature enough before we bought another. My 1 dollar opinion.
@britishmalayasociety2 жыл бұрын
This is a bit misleading, though a stealth aircraft isn't usually completely stealth, it is incredibly difficult to target even if you are able to detect it. Czechia turned down free Gripen E's in favour of the F-35 which they haven't even been approved to purchase yet. There's no point in purchasing more expensive, older generation aircraft, where you lose significant amounts of capability.
@Ezees232 жыл бұрын
Detection and a pinpoint firing solution are waaaay different, LOLs. By the time the low-band radar detects the F-35 and then tries to relay that info to a targeting radar - it'll have several HARMs heading it's way. It's a no-win situation - turn on you radar and nearly immediately get destroyed - or don't turn it on at all. Remember: Out of all the sorties of the first stealth F-117, only one has ever been shot down - and that was a combination of bad tactics from command using the exact same route, and hung-open weapons bay door, and a missile system commander's nerve to turn on his radar and extreme luck in getting a firing solution. IOW, it was a lucky shot that never happened again despite the F-117 continuing to operate. That was the 1st Gen stealth plane - the F-35 is a 5th Gen and waaaay more capable and way less detectable than the F-117......

Let me put the whole thing into perspective, especially for those impressionable youngsters who are below the age of 45 (a/o 2022). The F35 program is a master ploy by the weapons conglomerate Lockheed Martin. (Lockheed Martin is a merger that resulted from the takeover of Martin Marietta by Lockheed Aerospace). While Lockheed had created & legendarized its technology prowess during the Cold War, with such craft as the U2 spy plane (several were shot down by the USSR and China in the 60s & 70s) and the Mach 3 SR-71 Blackbird, it also has one other overwhelming capability, ie., the ability to 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞 government officials of many countries. The leaders of Germany, Italy and Netherlands received millions of US$ in bribes in the 60s & 70s from Lockheed (and I bet with the blessings of the US government) to get their air forces to buy the F-104 Starfighter jets. Though those super sleek fighters were very fast, they were inherently unreliable and many were lost, not in combat, but in the course of normal takeoff and landings. Thus the names "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐰 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫" and "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧" were given to this notorious craft. Even Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands took a US$1.1million bribe. Then came the infamous trijet airliner, the Lockheed L1011 Tristar. And again Lockheed's "stealthy technology" was deployed. Lockheed bribed several Japanese officials and even a Yakusa, so that it can sell the airliner to Japanese airline, ANA (which was also considering the rival DC-10). That scandal brought down the prime minister, Kakuei Tanaka, who was charged, fined and jailed. Thus, the fact that the F-35 has been purchased by so many countries is not that it has superlative performance (true in some respects) but there are ugly, stealthy reasons behind a great number of those purchases. I hope our RSAF purchase is NOT one of those cases

You're quite literally describing some of the best aircraft ever built, widely regarded by pilots, and even stewardesses who've served on them. Save only for the Starfighter, which was the only advanced mass produced allied aircraft at the time, at the dawn of the fighter jet era. Everything on paper, everything on excercises, everything on accounts, shows that the F-35 is an overwhelmingly capable, superior aircraft, cheap and highly regarded by pilots, including those who fly the F-22.
@richiebularin11552 жыл бұрын
Wanna know the funny part? The original price of the F35 was in the 90-100 million dollar range. (currently in the 70 million dollar range) So hundreds of F35's would make governments bankrupt, and bribing governments of billions would make Lockheed Martin also bankrupt. If you're beloved F16 or A10 is being replaced and you are sooo sad about it, just remember A10 has the highest friendly fire kill count, and the F16 is made by Lockheed Martin. And lastly, the information you know about? Decades Old. And the crashes? Pilot Errors. Expensive? Not as expensive as maintaining A10s. Take my reply with anything you want.
