In my humble opinion the modern ruck sack is an Osprey brand hiking pack. They're just so damn comfortable. I can carry 40lbs of gear 16hrs a day every day with an Osprey pack.

Those will never replace an ALICE pack for the people that need one

I'd like to get an Alice ruck to go with my lbe build out, but surplus is starting to cost the same as retail. It's a bit disheartening when you can buy some new gear for the same price as 30yr+ old gear

@@MoonMoon-gu2ge surplus stores are not what they used to be. I see stores putting all the good stuff on ebay and all the trash milsurp on the shelves. Then they do a 50% mark up on everything. On top of that, they have the balls to say prices are non negotiable. Like come on man.

With field repair buckles and sturdy wire cutters you can do this in 5 minutes

@@lecherojr seems to be what everyone’s telling me. I already had mystery Ranch bags and stuff so I never really felt like I had a huge need to find out for myself.

Alice pack is by far the best ruck, especially if you’re on the shorter side. You can still get all the weight up riding on your hips/kidney pad with absolutely no strain on your shoulders. I used an old Alice pack all through my service, every school, deployments etc. never used any of the new stuff, it was trash in comparison.

@@Butlerwilliamp1986 I put some use on it today and it felt great, even while I was wearing my AVS.

You need a Down East 1306 or 1301 (I cant remember which) Alice frame. Woodland Molle straps and belt. And its pretty decent. If you look up Tactical Taylor, they have a whole menu for pack mods, as well as their straps and belt. I usually select, extended storm flap, reinforced stitching, fastex buckles, and drag handle. This is the best version. I have done a large alice as well as a woodland alice with molle suspension.

Down East 1606 frame was part of the USGI Radio Assault Rucksack Agilis Zero (Medium size came with Pouches, Frame, shoulder straps, hip belt and a large Molle panel with no bag). I think all of their frames might be 16XX series. I've not seen anything from Tactical Tailor as of yet, maybe you got a custom sample?

@3vil3lvis nope. I posted Tactical Taylor's ruck mods link here. It seems to have disappeared. Sounds shady to me.

@user-do1fq8oy9c yes and KZbin won't allow weblinks outside of the KZbin ecosystem unless you have premission of the channels owner. This came about because bots spamming pron links were making the comments section unusable.

Brother they saved you maybe 15 minutes of work and a 6 pack of yuengling. It’s a fun rucksack and nice for airborne jumps but outside of that it way too small to really hold much outside of 3 days of sustainment, maybe

@@diegoflores3408 Thats something I definitely noticed today. You cant fit much in it. Just like the absolute bare minimum, and thats not including mission specific equipment.

@ yeah that pretty much sums it up. Probably like a woobie, 4 MREs, some water, a jacket and a loadout is probably all you’re going to get out of it. Still overall my favorite and go to for a little hike in the mountains
