I look at the Jackets being involved with the trade deadline because they have an extremely valuable asset: 27M in cap space. If they are still in they can buy, if they collapse there are some rentals to be had.

One tweak, Columbus is -3 goal differential. Jackets have picked it up as they are 7-2-1 in last 10 which could keep them there. Far enough back in division they really only have wild card as a possibility.

It will be wildly tricky for the Habs to maintain their December pace throughout the rest of the season, but if they can, they'll finish with 110 points, good enough to tie them with last year's Florida Panthers at the top of the Atlantic.

Tampa getting mcdonaugh back has turned their defense around. With all the changes this past year it took them some time to figure out the lines and d pairings. Tampa has things trending in the right direction. I would suspect we make two depth moves. I could see us picking up a grinder bottom 6 to help lock the game down. I’d also like to see a nice gritty dmen who plays physical brought in. A 3rd pairing guy

@@randombutrelevant Not sure I would say helped them. WJ and JR were and are still getting about the same amount of time. Both have been excellent if not scoring as many points as some would like. WJ plays in all phases of the game, has since his rookie season. JR doesnt get the love for his defense as he should and is coming on hot now. How much would be different if those two guys hadnt been injured, I dont think that much... But guys like Steel, Blackwell, Back and others, they have definitely gotten more ice time. Dallas has rolled 4 lines since DeBoer got here.

I've always calculated a game in hand is worth 1 point for the teams aiming for a wild card. Teams that consistently play well above 500 becomes more of a schedule deep dive to see how they might pan out. Strength of schedule is a real thing for the second hslf.

The weird thing about the Ducks is that they lead the NHL in covering the spread. That means they probably have the most 1-goal losses in the NHL and probably have like 3 games where they have lost by 4 goals.
