a look at the resale world of d23 pins 2024 👗

ok so this is a new type of video for me. instead of hauling pins i have been following the #d23expo merch resale world and i have to talk about the pins and the new grails that were dropped over the weekend. #disney #disneypins #d23
and i had to speed up the video otherwise it would be over an hour and while i can talk about disney pins for multiple hours this seemed best

*the paint can pins are small af not sure why i said they are mini jumbo size. yall are definitely scamming if you charge more than $50 for these regular size pins.
last thoughts on the d23 pin event 2024 that did not make the video:
-if botting was less of an issue i would be interested in le/grail pin releases through shop disney/disney store/ whatever the online disney store is called now. i know it won't happen bc it would make pins more accessible to those of us not near the parks, but a gal can dream. also the cast member exclusive thing would get in the way but those pins still get out to us normies so...
-the only other option would be raising pin prices and i know disney would do it but the pin community would shun me if i said i would like to see that happen for grail-esque pins. but there is also the risk of pins just being crazy high in the resale market-which they already are
-ok another conspiracy but some of these resellers are claiming they have high prices bc of ebay last sold or whatever but in actuality i think they flew private to d23 and stayed in the four seasons hotel and they want us to pay for their lavish trip
-also i saw quite a few collectors get into pin reselling recently and i wonder what the implications of this will be on the disney pin economy
conspiracy #2 disney has to like the resale market in some way bc these pins are going for a crazy amount and they seem to do nothing to combat the prices. it isn't just this release, profiles were $1500+. i guess the attention drives some people to panic purchase from disney. maybe the insane resale world isn't their biggest issue but im willing to bet disney knows about resellers and they just dont care
-would limiting time in stores help make merch distribution more equitable? again #nodrama but i literally watched multiple sellers on live take their sweet time in store buying like 10 of everything and selling those items on live while in the stores. in addition to limiting pins per guest maybe cap how much time a person can spend shopping/in store.
-this isnt a new idea but it deserves to be mentioned again: some of these pin designs are getting repetitive and that is why some inventory is not selling as fast
-again on the newbie pin sellers some of them had no clue how much pins would sell for/ which sets would hold value/ have any idea which pins trade well/ didn't even know the names of disney characters. just an observation and a bit of shade. but we all have to start somewhere i guess.
-i'm being mean to resellers in general but i can't lie i was on whatnot and some people were selling these pins for like $50 so shout out to the resellers who are not scammers. i should probs state im okay with charging a little extra as a pick up fee but doubling the cost of the pin 2 days after they released...*side eye*
-perhaps the d23 releases are the pin fans way of showing disney that there is a huge demand for harder to access pins. the limited access keeps the prices high but rotating quarterly on more public releases? idk how to fix this despite being an econ major
-one more thing on resellers, some of #them say their prices are above selling averages bc the pins sold out but they only say that about pins that aren't selling that well or they got like 4 of the same pin on sunday standby and they realize they will not make as much profit so they are hoping some less intense pin fans will take their word as truth and buy "sold out" pins. no one asked for my opinion but if i can easily find multiple listings for a pin then it aint as coveted as yall want it to be
-and finally my list of characters that deserved glitter paint jar representation (and in general should be on more pins and merch): clarabelle cow, clara cluck, spike the bee, big thunder mountain goat, contemporary resort 5 leg goat, mama odie and juju, arlo, ludwig, potc key dog, mr potato head, rc, maggie simpson, scuttle, ortensia, riley's parents from inside out, and finally i think disney should purchase the rights to planet 51 and all those characters should get on merch stat!
