A Luta Continua explains the military struggle of the Liberation Front of Mozambique (FRELIMO) against the Portuguese. Produced and narrated by American activists Robert Van Lierop, it details the relationship of the liberation to the wider regional and continental demands for self-determination against minority rule. It notes the complicit roles of foreign governments and companies in supporting Portugal against the African nationalists. Footage from the front lines of the struggle helps contextualize FRELIMO s African socialist ideology, specifically the role of the military in building the new nation, a commitment to education, demands for sexual equality, the introduction of medical aid into the countryside, and the role of culture in creating a single national identity.

It makes me so angry to think that they were asking for so little, self automony , education and health, and they had to fight so hard for it. And after all that along comes " Renamo " to destroy all their hard fought infrastructure. 1 million died in civil war . My heart ❤ goes to out the people of Mozambique, who gave so much.

I can't believe I supported this garbage in my youth. Haven't seen this since 1979.

@@marcelluswhyte2291 Many decades ago, I considered myself a Communist. The only reason I wasn't a member of the Party was because I was too young. I, eventually, learned to dismiss my political convictions as incorrect. I supported the so-called "national liberation" movements in the Third World. My outlook was coloured by politics. In retrospect, Rhodesia. South Africa and others were correct in opposing the movement. Look at the condition of Rhodesia and South Africa to-day. If you want additional information, please let me know.

@@jasonhuegan7007 Thanks for replying. I can agree with some of the things you have stated. But can't agree with everything. Let's say " we agree to disagree and leave it at that. The Mozambique people were super exploited by the Portuguese. They had every right to pickup the gun and fight . What happened after liberation was a shame for all their suffering during the liberation war . Yes Mozambique does have it problems but it's " their mess " , that. what liberation means .

@@marcelluswhyte2291 There aren't any democracies in Africa. "Their mess" in Africa is a poor excuse for one-man dictatorships and kleptocracies. Rhodesia once Africa. Now, it's a cesspool. You rationalise the armed struggle against colonial oppression, and revel in native oppression against these self-same people. This you call "good." Name one post-colonial nation that is worth living in. (I concede that Mozambique still has the best sea food.)

@@jasonhuegan7007 So living in a black state ruled by whites is somehow live-worthy? No white man shall rule Africans and vice versa. What an ignorance
