@ Those who gave this a DON'T LIKE: Even when you do not like Francis Poulenc's work, you're watching two brilliant players. Probably the best new-generation pianists on this planet, right now. So at least try and admire these two young men, the orchestra and the Conductor.

This is... words cannot express. Thank you Alexander, Thank you Sandro, Thank you Russia, this performance is so inspiring that one can forget for a moment how lowly is todays popular culture, and how few people still appreciate quality in anything. But this music... it is a marvel. I never knew I liked Poulenc's music till now... I heard it many times. only now... it comes to life and meaning. I will surely listen to this performance many many more times. Thank you.

I agree so thoroughly, Motti. I mourn the vapidity of current popular music and literature. Only the visual arts are exciting, with excellence in both graphic illustration, digital animation and serious art in oil, print, mixed media. Far less in music. Even in the serious music from academy, I long for a Barber or Prokofiev or Ravel to emerge. Alexander is truly a bright, golden ray from the future, I hope.

Alexander and Sandro play beautifully together. Would love to see them collaborate on more musical ventures! Russia, thank you for encouraging your youth in the arts.

I clicked onto this performance because of Malofeev, but stayed because of the Poulenc. Wonderful piece! In the idiom of Prokofiev but very distinctive. Extremely romantic also due to the flowing together of the very refined and beautifully textured motifs. Love the slow movement best for its sincere and heartfelt level of undulating ballets of rhyme and philosophical reason; very soothing. The finale was a model of coruscating brevity and piercing drama. This concerto is new to me and one of the most brilliant finds in some time. Thank you soloist and sharp witted conductor and spirited orchestra. PWG

Uncle! Uncle! Is there anything that Alexander hasn't conquered in the piano literature? (By the way, Sandro Nebieridze was absolutely dynamic and an equal partner to Alexander in every way. Bravo to a future master!) The thing that is sobering is that Alexander performs everything that he studies. Most pianists do not have this range of versatility and comprehension. The amount of music he has performed is absolutely dazzling and all in his pre-20's. I am troubled by one thing: he is so dedicated and talented that he is liable to burn himself out! He must protect himself from pure egoistical ambition. He has it in his ability range to become one of the greats. With his innate talent and the ability to internalize the music he studies so easily, he is unique! I make a suggestion to him humbly that he chooses to start playing chamber music and learn to be a part of a music group instead of the soloist. It is a question that more is needed besides technique. Musicianship is part of the diet of a growing artist!

I think that Alex Malofeev is the pianist of the 21st century. He is happening right now and will be an indicator to future pianists. He has this curiously mysterious gift of being difficult to describe. You could simply say, well, he's a genius, the end. But why? It will take a long time to understand why he is/was so great. And he is only 14. Many things could happen to change him. Imagine studying Prokofiev, or Mahler, or Mozart at the age of 14 and trying to predict how they would turn out by age 40, or even 52? So, alex malofeev has quite a road ahead of him, and we can only sit back and enjoy how it will turn out. My guess is that he could burn out by age 24, and then he will have to restart. He is under a lot of scrutiny and pressure, that's why the conductor he is paired with here is so kind, he is not pushing him, he is encouraging him. Alex Malofeev, you can immediately tell, is very very ambitious to be the greatest. There's a little bit of an act going on, but it is not overtaking him. Who is the true Alex Malofeev? Can't tell now. I think he is one in a million though.

This is absolutely what Poulenc intended the pianos to be placed (between the conductor and the orchestra), which is RARELY SEEN in most performances and clips.
