EQUIPMENT

Dealer Accessories; Volvo floor trays front and rear, Volvo collapsable storage box, Volvo first aid cushion.
EXTERIOR
Finished in classic Petrol Blue, (Code 232), this family owned and very low mileage example boasts a glorious deep uniform shine. Volvo paintwork from this era was famous for its multi-layer treatment and this example is certainly no exception with a polished mirror finish. All body panels have uniform shut lines and some remedial cosmetic repairs have been carried out to the front lower valance. All protective mouldings and rubber trim is free from damage are the lights and badges. All glass is etched with the Volvo logo and still attached are the Volvo radio code stickers. The bumpers are fully intact with bright chrome trim and some very light scratches barely worthy of mention. Volvo branded supplying dealer number plates and tax disc holder are still fitted. Door and boot shuts are very clean.
INTERIOR
The interior of this 340 is a retro delight! Finished in Grey Tweed, (Code 6923), the seats and overall interior condition reflect that of a low mileage and cherished example. The front orthopaedic seats are heated and offer wonderful armchair comfort. The carpets have been protected by dealer fit Volvo rubber floortrays in the front and rear. The impact absorbing headlining is tight and free from marks and discolouration. All switchgear, gauges and dash warning lights function correctly. The standard Volvo VC 608 stereo radio cassette is operational although the display is partially distorted.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The B14.4E (economy) engine of 1397cc produces 69bhp and 106Nm of torque and upholds the reputation of bullet proof reliability. With electronic ignition mapping the microprocessor constantly scans its memory bank of 2048 possible timing points and matches timing precisely to the engines operating conditions giving improved efficiency and responsive performance. The immaculate engine bay display factory plates and labels and the spare wheel is mounted to the inner wing and still wears the factory fitted Dunlop SP6 tyre! The 5-speed manual gearbox is light yet sturdy.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 13” steel wheels have genuine Volvo hubcaps and are in very good condition. Matching brand 155/80 R13 tyres have ample tread. A dual-circuit servo-assisted brake system with discs up front bring the car to a straight and steady halt. An additional high level rear brake light is fitted as standard as you would expect from safety-conscious Volvo!
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Main Dealers F.R.F Volvo in Swansea, a dealership who are still in business today, the car was registered new on the 12th January 1990. This wonderful 340 has covered just 22,241 miles from new in the ownership of three generations of one family. KGF Classic Cars are delighted to have purchased this example from Mr Atkins whose Grandfather purchased the car new before it was passed to his Son and then Grandson. A letter from Mr Atkins, (Grandson and keen Volvo Club Member), confirms the ownership history and that the car has always been garaged. Remarkably the ultra-rare and near impossible to replace genuine Volvo accessory All-round collapsable storage box, first aid cushion and floortrays have been passed down and kept by the owners. Even better is the ‘Volvo Lifetime Care…..For Permanent Peace of Mind’ cassette supplied to the first owner on handover that has been kept and still in its cassette box!
The Volvo document wallet holds the handbooks and spare keys complete with F.R.F Volvo fob. A folder holds comprehensive MOT records dating back to 1995 as well as invoices and receipts. Completing the history file are brochures for the 340/360 range and accessories and a 1989 Volvo range brochure and price list. A service was carried out in April 2024 at 22,241 miles.

Never forgotten the sound of a 340 with the Renault 1.4 Cleon Fonte engine and use to get a lift to school in one in the 90's. It always started every morning and was very reliable.

What lovely small family cars these were. Solid, comfortable, reliable and safe for a very modest price new. Not like modern equivalents that cost £30K for a base model, full of gadgets and gizmos that you do not really need and will cause problems as the car ages. This little Volvo from 35 years ago does the basics just as well . . . or better.

What a lovely, clean & rust-free example of such a rarity on our roads nowadays. If my memory serves me correctly these cars were made in the Netherlands under the DAF name. Quentin Willson formally of Top Gear describes the Volvo 340/360 cars as: 'A cure for insomnia as they have the aerodynamics of a telephone box'! Classic Quentin Willson! My Dad had a brown Volvo 360 GLS with the 2 litre Volvo engine in many years ago, it served as a good safe family car but eventually the head gasket blew & rust finished it in the end like the vast majority of them sadly. Whoever will buy this particular car please cherish & look after it & garage it.

Beautiful car, had a 940 redblock years ago. Know that engine well - Dad had a Renault 18 TL and my uncle had several Renault 12's all with the same 1.4 Cleon OHV motor. Dad and I rebuilt his engine after an oil pump failure and it was a lovely motor to work on, super reliable for years after the rebuild. This is what true 'green' motoring is about; - sturdy reliable simple to repair cars with well proven mechanics repairable by competent DIYers and local honest garages. Not the rubbish of today (including electric cars) - total greenwashing, and fooling the people; incorporating fragile electronics, overly complex mechanics and lots of planned obsolescence and 'dealer only' stuff.

@@geoffdundeemy first car was a V reg 345DL, thought I was a country gent (at age 19) in it 😂 In addition to the 2 subsequent 340’s, much later on, I got 57 reg C30 (which I still have 😉) alongside a V40 D3 that I had for 4 years as a company car. Always hankered after a 480 but never found ‘the one’, these days they are either £300 buckets or £6000+ show cars 🤔

Correct! It is shown in the 1985 and 1986 brochures, the 1985 mentions this item specifically as being standard on 340GL, 360 base and GLS models. Models with rev counter such as 360 GLT and GLE didn't have it, neither did the lesser versions of the 340. By 1987 this item seems to have been abandoned again.

@@CreRay Not sure the brochures are totally accurate - in the UK at least the change up indicator was optional. The dashboard has space for two additional accessory dials, ontop of the the fuel, water temp, rev counter and speed. You could also option these two additional spaces with a econometer (vacuum gauge) and ambient temperature gauge.
