I remember going with a friend to the theater when this came out. I would look away occasionally in the dark for I’m a very emotional man and had to keep it together. After, we were walking back to the car and Amy asked how I liked the movie, I just started blubbering like a baby. Two grown adults standing in the parking lot holding each other while people passed by in silence.

Stephen Spielberg was working on this masterpiece at the same time he was working on Jurassic Park. Now that's chaos...there's nothing to really say about this. It speaks for itself. When Schindler's Jews and their relatives come in at the end...this wasn't a movie, it was reality. I implore you to see "The Fallen of WW2" to give you the scale of this tragedy.

Its just baffling how he manager to make 2 completely different type of movies at the same time and that both were so good! The Fallen of World War II we have seen (actually used it in a presentation in college about international laws 😅). But we also got a request to do it, so I think we will post that commentary here on youtube yeah

Although they say in the movie it was a paperwork mistake, the reality is it was that Goethe's 2nd in command that sent the train to Auschwitz. He was angry that he hadn't gotten a share of the money Schindler gave to goethe, and this was his revenge. And Schindler himself didn't go to Auschwitz, but sent a subordinate.

Wonderful watching this with you both. I love that you're doing these historic watches as well in addition to your other posts. I watch Conspiracy every once in a while; it is such a surreal watch, all that cold perfunctory bureaucratic verbalage churned out over each other, and only when one takes a moment to pause and remember what exactly they're talking about does it all feel so unimaginatively chilling. So chilling. It would be awesome if you did 1982's Gandhi at some point. Ben Kingsley's (Itzhak Stern) performance is a tour de force. There's also Monument's Men (2014) showing the search and recovery of the artwork looted during the war.

First time I saw it was on cable because I couldn't find anyone that wanted to see it in the theater with me. Probably better for me because I was a mess by the end. I had to go check that out, but apparently it seems that a german diplomat leaked the info that dannish jews would begin being deported to various camps in Europe and the dannish resistance movement and citizens managed to evacuate pretty much all the jewish population to neutral Sweden. @@ptthatswhatshesaid .. The Germans did capture 464 who did not manage to escape, though mainly the elderly, but even here the Danish government managed to pressure the Germans to not deport any of them to the death camps and also to allow the Danish red cross to provide food parcels and monitor their health. Still, a total of 51 of the captives got sick and died of old age or disease at the camp.

You say we need to think about and remember these horrific events, and we should, but, how can we not watch such an important movie like this while a genocide is going on right now, and not mention it. The purpose of remembering and learning form the terrible events of the Holocaust is so we don't allow the repeat of those terrible things again. Well, it is happening again, RIGHT NOW, by the state of Israel against the Palestinian people. One cannot watch such a masterpiece and not mention that we are living through the lesson we were supposed to learn from it.

Genocides are a very dark reality in many places and throughout history. Like I say in the commentary, people often just remember this specific example, but forget others (especially in Asia and Africa) - at the moment kurds and north koreans also come to mind. I think one of the most important things to take from this, is to be aware and carefull to not create the conditions in your own country that can lead to this kind of actions basically.
