12:12 Q: "Why aren't cap(acitor)s 100% reliable?" A: "Because they are an electronic component. And like all electronic components, they break." After having a problem with an automotive delay / battery saver timer, I contacted the manufacturer only to be told that they can't fail because they are all electronic. There are no moving parts to break. I didn't bother to argue since he was either ignorant or lying. We ended up changing brands eventually.

I can help you with your queue until your other help arrives if you like. I live in West, TX(I-35 exit 353), and started replacing QFPs and PLCCs by hand at Texas Instruments back in 1995. Even though we had a hot pot machine for chip replacement, the queue was always quite long, so I learned to replace them by hand(without a hot air station; I was only using a Metcal soldering iron!) in order for me to be able to repair around a dozen laptop boards per shift...

6:55 So basically, when something is shorted you do not have the original circuit, thus things that hold for it don't necessarily hold for this new shorted circuit. Seems like even if the voltage wouldn't be a problem, it could draw far more current than normal (if you're injecting a lot of current to cause heating). 12:10 Why do they manage to make each form of capacitor a very common failure point? First we had electrolytics with their bad electrolytes and leaking and destroying boards. So they develop multi-layer ceramic capacitors with amazingly high capacitance for their size. Except they routinely fail as a short and take down electronics. Enjoyable repair video, regardless of the circumstances. Has the proper amount of annoyance with things and people, combined with practical information.

I do not really work on Apple products, but the same idea applies to all electronics. Once you figure out you need voltage injection you need to be careful like Louis said. I always start at 1V and work my way up. Usually you see multiple amps drawn at that voltage if there is a direct short. For the cases not drawing that much current you need thermal camera to really see what component is heating up.

Boring board repair videos? These board repair videos show how passionate and knowledgeable you are about your art. They're also an example of the unique kind of customer satisfaction that can only be provided by an independent repair business, that cannot always be matches by a manufacturer's authorized partner. Any potential customer, would rather have someone with your drive and respect servicing their devices, rather than some disrespecting authorized repair partner who only exists to squeeze every cent out of them in any scumbag way they can. The board repair videos are also a good example of the numerous kinds of services that can be done for a consumer AFFORDABLY when an independent repair business can obtain the proper documentation from a manufacturer, obligation free. Being able to service such things in the ways that you do for your customers and then teaching those same methods to others so that they can help themselves too, is also reflective of FUTO's beliefs regarding ethical capitalism. They're also great advertisements for examples of the ncredible things that can be achieved through the philosophy of Right To Repair.

Hearing him shout out _XFCE_ is delightful as it is surprising because there was a time when Louis said _no_ and *_never_* to Linux. Never say never, friends. Never say never.
@bluephreakr Жыл бұрын
Also, personal preference: EndeavourOS with MATE, but XFCE's getting a buff that'll bring it closer to parity with MATE boosting both productivity and aesthetics hopefully. If not MATE, KDE. KDE is great but confusing to configure sometimes. I can hear the novices, _But wait, isn't that like, Manjaro?_ _No._ Manjaro is what Arch could be if irresponsible teenagers thought they could turn Arch into Ubuntu. EndeavourOS is what Ubuntu _should had been_ from the start; close to its roots and just with the software which makes it unique as extras. It's the difference between relying on somebody else's repos and Arch Linux's repos, considering EndeavourOS is based on Arch. You want Manjaro's package management? Omit all of the ENdeavourOS-specific tools, run "yay -S pamac-aur && sudo pacman -S reflector-simple" _and be happy._
