Although firmly part of North Wales the Island of Anglesey has a distinctive mystical character of its own which stretches back to a time when Anglesey was a Druid homeland until around the end of the BC period. It was in 60AD when the Roman legions faced the terrifying sight of the painted warring Druids across the Menai Strait or ‘Afon Menai’. It had been this narrow stretch of sea that had allowed the Druids to fend off the encroaching Roman invaders until this final standoff. After the Romans left Anglesey the ensuing power vacuum was filled by the return the British kings and the area of Aberffrew became capital of the kingdom of Gwynedd. It was around this time that two holy men arrived on Anglesey, St Cybi who set up his monastery on Anglesey’s Holy Isle, in Holyhead and St Seiriol who established Holy Penmon at the opposite side of the Island. The wide range of ancient, mystical and historical sites to be discovered on Anglesey reflect this diverse history and during our tour we will traverse the island visiting a whole range of fascinating and well-preserved sites.
Neil McDonald’s Megalithic Tours visit historical sites, prehistory sites, ancient sites, archaeological sites from Romans, the Bronze Age, Neolithic, Mesolithic Age, Palaeolithic Age, Stone Age and Iron Age. Megalithic monuments include, standing stones, stone circles, burial sites, dolmen, long barrows, henges and castles. Our interests include prehistoric cultures, ancient settlement, the Knights Templar, King Arthur, ancient mystery, archaeology ( stone axes, stone tools, prehistorical pottery, archaeological buildings ), forgotten technology, The Cathars ( Albigensian Crusade ), the Bronze Age Decline and other ancient catastrophe.

Great video, lovely presentation, music, and photography. It has answered many questions about Anglesey. A few years ago I had a very powerful dream about being with a holy community on Anglesey island, the effect of the dream lasted for weeks with me, as if I had lived through some transformative event there in real life. Only when I researched Anglesey's history did I discover that it was an island and also had a holy community living on it. Some strange confection there. Some day soon I will visit it, thanks for the great video. What is the name of the background song?

Really glad you enjoyed it Noel. It seems like Anglesey has been a holy island for millennia including the Druids and the early Christian saints. I think the place still has a mystical feel to it.

Very true Jim, I suppose all we can do is look at as many sites as we can and try and glean as much as possible.

Neil McDonald's Megalithic Tours thanks for responding. Can I ask, in your opinion do you think if it were not for the Romans wiping out the indigenous culture do you think it is more likely that we would know more about what our Neolithic ancestors really believed?
@NeilMcDonaldsMegalithicTours
@NeilMcDonaldsMegalithicTours 4 жыл бұрын
@@PibrochPonder Its difficult to say because it seems the Bronze Age people were different to the Neolithic and maybe had a different belief system. Then we had the early Christian belief system mixing with the existing one that would have involved the Druids. Then of course the Romans came and wiped all that out followed by the Roman church that finished the job. It would be good to fully trace the Druid/Early Christian beliefs but the problem with going back to the Neolithic is that we can only view things though our eyes, which may be totally difference to the way they viewed the World.

Neil McDonald's Megalithic Tours it’s such high a shame. We have all the ghosts of the past and very little real understanding. After this lockdown is over if you have an Anglesey, Yorkshire or Lake District tour going I would love to join it.
