I love flying in the wind. There's usually nobody else flying, and you can have the field to yourself. I have a Habu 4S jet that I use as my "beater" for windy days. Handles the wind very well.

Well said! And yes the 4s habu is a great wind plane. Get the 6s version and run 4s in her.

In my years of flying I have never seen the wind blow a plane out of the sky, landings are another story. I live in Perth Australia which is the 3rd windiest city on earth. I do need to consider the wind factor before purchasing a plane. Emotional choice does takeover sometimes. As usual great video Greg - God bless.

Well this was a just for fun type video, just to show that you can have fun with the wind if your very familiar with how the plane behaves. So many shy off flying on windy days when they really do not have to.

I have this plane too, it's one of my favorite planes

Well it is a all time favorite for a reason.

Beginners, that's true, laminar wind is OK as long as your craft's max level airspeed is higher than the wind speed. The reason why many of us fear windy days is not wind per se, but turbulence, which is a different issue altogether. A high wing loading will make you less vulnerable to that beast. Handling a low wing loaded model like this in high winds takes a) a lot of skill and b) non-turbulent air. Wide open fields can have smooth wind, but trees or houses upwind will generate rough air. If in doubt, use a soap bubble kit for kids before you fly, and watch how the bubbles move.

i completely agree this was just to show that ridding the wind and keeping a plane your confident in the air can be a fun thing in the wind.

@@FatGuyFliesRC So true. But it still takes guts, so your windy videos provide very useful moral support!

That wind and low teens... now you're talking. 😊 I have flown my UMC TT in temps as low as -11F but with very, very little to no wind.

@@FatGuyFliesRC Turns out to not be that big a deal. I prep and pre-flight check the plane in my insulated attached garage which I keep heated to about 60F during the winter. A thin pair of wool gloves are warming on the portable oil filled electric heater while I'm prepping for the flight. Put on the warm gloves, step out the door, walk a few feet and put the plane into the air. I've got a 6-minute timer on my UMX TT so I'm back into the garage having been outside for only 7-8 minutes. Again, dressed warmly and without the wind the cold temps by themselves are not a big deal. PS. The floats for the UMX TT work better on the snow than they do on the water.

Yes, it can be lot of fun 😆

I do enjoy the wind if the plane is a slow plane like this. Jets and fast props its best to keep them for clamer days. The wind plus high speed just knocks it all over the place. Plus I only take my hand launchers out in the wind now. Its just too expensive come landing time when the winds gusty and too unpredictable. Can easily flip a plane when your inches off the ground. I had a futura v3 flip when I just touched down.
@FatGuyFliesRC2 жыл бұрын
Oh yes it is not just the plane you are comfortable it also has to be the right kind of plane too. I agree!

If it's windy, I just don't fly. Why take a chance on crashing a plane.......
@FatGuyFliesRC2 жыл бұрын
Like I said it is what your comfortable with and your confidence in the plane. Example I would never try this with a jet or a sport model.

So G Pa Gary, now you know what Mojave is like, 😆
@FatGuyFliesRC2 жыл бұрын
Another factor that the Mojave deals out (i suspect) is a element of sand in the wind, that would be another factor to the destruction of plane parts and foam structure.

@@FatGuyFliesRC well, if you get right upand don't have a turbine that might suck dirt in the engine, you're ok for the most part. I have my air craft carrier now, I just need my parts, 😆
