Ok, welcome to the Sabaton family. I see most of them have been told in other posts so I'll just give a list of songs you really ought to listen to: "Christmas Truce", "1916" a Motörhead cover, "En livstid i krig" Gothenburg consert - it's in Swedish but there are subtitles, "No Bullets Fly" - the animated story, "Swedish Pagans" - Live at Wacken 2019, "Devil Dogs" and "82:nd all the way" is a good place to start.
@greensky31529 ай бұрын
For Christmas Truce and 1916, the official music video would be best for a reaction. If you react to the performance of En Livstid I Krig at Gothenburg, be sure to turn on the subtitles. The lyrics are always important with Sabaton; every song tells a story. Also, with any Sabaton video, be sure to play it to the very end. (For videos that have credits, such as Christmas Truce, you should play it to the end of the credits.)

I was there in Gothenburg when they did en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) and I can only agree with you on that one.

Sabaton tells stories of history Usually focused on the militaristic side of it but they dont do it to glorify war but to honor the dead. They also have good crowd control and you cant help but to sing along with sabaton once you know the lyrics so in a way they are somewhat similar to sea shanties. This story/song in particular is about The Sack(Raid/Attack) of Rome in 1527 after Holy Roman Empire(Located where germany is today) Troops werent paid by there liege for attacking the papal states(Rome's territory) the soldiers chose to attack Rome out of pure greed without orders to do so. The story tells the bravery of a battalion of Swiss mercenaries who defended the pope. The Song En Livstid I Krig live @ Gothenburg is a must watch for all sabaton fans but be sure to turn on english subtitles when listening as its sung in there mother tongue Swedish The Sabaton fandom is very supportive but usually purely focuses on sabaton music so do with that information what you will.

The genre is called POWER METAL. It has all the hallmarks of what people think of is heavy metal. But it has speed, operatic themes, clean vocals, and speed. Lots of speed. Did I mention speed?

Need help finding any, let me know, I'll try and help. lol I think you'd like them too, this is about the average for heaviness. Also, all their songs are based on real military battles throughout history.

great reaction, more Sabaton please. Sabaton is a Swedish band with a loooong list of history based music. Sabaton also has an award winning history channel that gives background to over 100 if their songs (not music award, academic, aimed at education of the public) . Sabaton videos are often have dedictions and/or messages at the end, perhaps not always but... watching to the very end is frequently well worth it. Animated STORY videos (short Animated history lessons with music videos in them) No bullets fly, enemy showing mercy to injured aircrew in a nearly wrecked aircraft barely still flying, even escorting them to safety. Night witches, Young (17-28) fenale bomber pilots in ww2 fighting the Nazi despite the discrimination they faced and being given obsolete equipment, aircraft ... Lady of the dark, female fighting alongside men during ww1 and being highly respected and even more decorated. Red baron, the famous fighter pilot of ww1 l first soldier, unlikely French hero in ww1. Epic ORIGINAL videos. Bismark, about the sinking of the ship Christmas truce, about the spontaneous truce in some parts of the western front during Christmas 1914 40:1, about polish soldiers, badly outnumbered (just under 750 in all) facing 42 000 germans, they where BADLY outgunned desperately defending against the German invasion 1939 (with odds actually close to 55:1 they held for 3 DAYS when ammunition and supplies ran out. Uprising, the Warsaw Uprising against the nazi germans during 1944. To hell and back, they tell the story of Audie Murphy (highly decorated) and his struggle AFTER the war, so about PTSD and drug addiction that returning soldiers can face. Fields of verdun, the 300+ day long battle fought there. Price of a mile, about the battle of Passchendaele Screaming Eagles, about the battle of the bulge Live performances 40:1 from poland Uprising from poland En livstid I krig live from Göteborg Sweden (in Swedish but there are subtitles) , very heavy again, about thoughts of a young man going to war. Two covers that are good Defence of Moscow, self explained 1916 about the devastating battle of the somme in ww1, casualties topped 1 milion if you count both sides, all for 6 miles of ground, these are just some, there are plenty more.

shantys have very specific traits despite how popular the term is. It's specifically a song with a very simple and strong rhythmic pulse set at a tempo designed to coordinate sailors doing a specific task. The songs were meant to keep men in sync when doing things like working pumps or tugging ropes where any man out of sync was working against the rest instead of contributing. That's a little hard to define in words but easy to explain with examples. The other thing is that they have to have been actually used for this purpose to be a true shanty. Since we don't do work this way anymore technically you can't have a new shanty. There's plenty of songs that fit the criteria except for that last part and while they're not true shanties they're close enough that I count them still. A good example of this would be Barrett's Privateers. It was written in the 20th century so doesn't count but when you hear it, it really should count. Even songs from history that sound like shanties often aren't. A lot of what people consider shanties were just drinking songs popular among sailors, but not shanties. One easy way to tell is if the song has a more complex rhythm in any part or if the vocals require pretty much any skill at all to sound decent. A skilled singer can make a shanty sound way better of course but the other vital part of a shanty was that it was something that your average sailor could sing along with. It's gotta be simple enough for non musicians to be able to pull it off. Sorry if that comes across as me being a know it all, I just tend to nerd out about music history. Please take this more as a spastic outburst of fun facts than someone correcting you.

i think u did a good reaction, now im gonna tell u a story. When i first saw this video, not the live one but the one with cinematics from Kingdom of heaven and The movie Arn, i actually thought this song was about the crusades. My son heard me mention this and he said "dad this is not about the crusades, its about the Swizz guards who protectcs the Pope" So im an old guy but i still loves to learn new shit so i watched the Sabaton history about this song and obv it became clear. It only made me love this song more, wonderfull story about people sacrificing their lives for something greater. I am not religeous, more or less an atheist but if i were a christian, i would use this song as a call to arms (so to speak) i dont like war but this is amazing song from an amazing band.

1. It's called the Holy See & it's the jurisdiction of Rome that is the head of the Catholic church & the Vatican City State 2. On May 6th 1527 189 Swiss Guard mercenaries stood their ground along with 5,000 militiamen against a force of 20,000 plus strong made up of German mercenaries, Spanish soldiers & Italian mercenaries who were in service to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V in his war against Pope Clement VII decided to mutiny against Charles & plunder Rome & the Vatican. All 189 Swiss Guard died defending Clement's movement to Castel Sant'Angelo so he could be kept safe until a ransom was paid out to the mutinous pillagers. Swiss Guard were made the official bodyguards to whoever holds the office of Pope because of their dedication to their word & contract despite not having been paid themselves before the attack took place
@daviekuklatv9 ай бұрын
this tune is more along the slower dedicated to the 189 Swiss Guards who died protecting the Pope in 1527 against an unpaid army who rose up and sacked Rome as retaliation for not being paid. Thus every time when selection rolls around 189 Swiss Guards are chosen. If you would like to hear heavier tunes by them, then I would select Ghost Divison or Stormtroopers

A little history on the history sang about here. In 1527, 20,000 mutinous men of the Holy Roman Emperor attacked Rome (why is a longer story than I'll tell here). They relatively easily overwhelmed the city's 5,000 militiamen defenders and 500 Swiss Guard and started to sack the city. The Pope was evacuated through the Passetto di Borgo, a secure passage that connects Vatican City to Castel Sant'Angelo. The Swiss Guard, whittled down to only 189, sent 42 men to escort the Pope while the remaining 147 engaged in a valiant Last Stand and were slaughtered to a man defending the steps up to the passage. I can also promise that this is one of their lightest songs. Listen to Ghost Division for the opposite.
