Thank you for sharing! The E-M1ii is historically a breakthrough camera, and it is still brilliant today. But you raise another point: just as a musician doesn’t just use “an” instrument but “my” instrument, so too a photographic artist uses a favorite tool with which the artist is in sync. That makes it more than a tool but a trusted companion on a creative journey.

Bonsoir Chris.

Totally get the photography as an escape, it's been the only thing that has kept me reasonably sane for the last fifty years. When everything gets too much to lose yourself and think of nothing else but what is in front of your eyes. Priceless. Love the shots too.

Thank you for sharing. Im from Germany and I feel exactly the same for this Camera. I started photography in the age of 16 with the legendary Olympus OM-1 in 1976. I used Olympus with great fun and success till around 2000. Then i must go to digital Cameras for professional purposes. Canon was the only affordable system in these times. So i lost Olympus man years till the Pen System comes out. Till this point Olympus was not useful to me. Later i bought the OM-D EM10 MARK I. STUNNING ! Since this point, i bought several bodies und lenses and do everything with it. Two years ago i thought, that i must have a Fullframe Camera, the Lumix S 5. But seriously, i use it barely. PS: i have good friends in Newcastle upon Tyne, their dialect is quite similar to yours. You must be a Geordie. 😊 Thanks for this Video, take care.

LOVE THIS! I switched to MFT gear last year and have gone nuts buying used bodies and lenses. I love it. I go on photo walks every day and have never taken so many interesting photos. It's a connection to the gear and how it unlocks your creativity, inner peace, and satisfaction. I hear you! Oh...and MFT isn't dead...as long as we are all still alive.

I agree 👍 I have now an olympus OM 1, and I love it. However, I previously had an olympus OMD1mk2. I still have it, and I'm not selling it. Let me explain. I started with an olympus omd10 mk3. I've had kit lenses, a macro lens, a 12-200 lens. Those I sold now trading up to my OM1 plus a 12-40 f2.8 and a 40-150 f2.8 . Both brilliant lenses. Now, if I can pass on any advice, it's this. Don't sell your gear, I regret selling my earlier olympus stuff,I wish I hadn't. However, I love the setup I've got and agree absolutely with you.

I bought my OM-1 when it first came out i have always been an Olympus shooter until i ventured out of my comfort zone and purchase a second hand Nikon D 850 and two lenses 24-70 and a70-200, i shoot a range of things from sport to landscapes to macro and i find it interesting that a picture is a picture but for some reason reason i go to my Olympus OM-1 mark 1 98% of the time possibly because of the weight and the glass i use or the fact that it just does everything i need it to do with out to much thought of the camera and more thought on the composition. Great video just keep shooting i love your enthusiasm .

Hi Chris, your passion resounds. I have a Mk lll version from the EM models and coincidentally own a GF1 but with the Lumix 20mm lens (given to me). I tend to shoot street in B&W with the Lumix. I love the outcome. As a cyclist and camping enthusiast the Olympus system really works for me. In what other system can you carry six lenses and a camera body in a bag about half the size of a shoebox? I’ve been through APS-C and FF (I still have a Canon 5D Classic with 40mm f2.8). But M43 and its features really “just works” for me top. I just feel joy when I’m using the Olympus over any other system that I’ve had. You’re an ambassador without being an ambassador! You mentioned bokeh for portraits, just give the 75mm f1.8. It feels a bit weird and unaccustomed initially, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a brilliant portrait lens. Keep the videos flowing, they’re great!!!

I photographed a lot of wedding with the Olympus OMD E-M1ii. The feature that displays the image right after you taken it for 0.3 seconds is a life saver. I know wedding photographers and also some well known ambassadors that have screed up weddings. That feature is a life saver. The E-M1ii is good up to ISO 1,600 but I push it to ISO 3,200 and add a little noise reduction in Lightroom 20 or 30 on Luminance. If I use DXO PureRaw I can go to ISO 6,400 with no issues. And the OM-1ii can go as high as 25,600 now with DXO PureRaw. And if you use 14-bit raw you can skip DXO PureRaw if you want.

Great vlog Chris. I can vouch too for the EM-1 MKII. Now I did move on and now have the MKIII & OM-1 , but both of those purchases were for functions that I do use - LIVE ND being the main one, as well as the subject detection and hand-held Hi-Res. But, if funds allowed, I would love to round out the collection with the EM-1 original & MKII, they're both awesome cameras. Also, I love that beach! So many potential subjects - if you don't mind me asking what's the name of it? I'd love to add it to the enormous list of potential subjects for the next time I'm in the UK.

I've came for canon and wildlife to the Om1 but I'm more of a wildlife lover than a photographer tbh, the features kind of overwhelm me. Chris, if you have not done so already, I think a video on why you don’t think the Sony is fitting you like you thought it would, could be a good video itself (focused on that topic). I would watch that to hear more from you, as it compares to the other system you use, etc. I don’t own either system, but had been considering both, with the Sony model you mentioned specifically due to the “dynamic range” (low light photog.) aspect.

Sounds like you need to trade your sony in for a used GH body for your video work. 1 system/mount for everything. I can’t let go of my GX8 and GM1 for the same reason, and the 20/1.7 I got with my GF1 in 2010. Even within m43 there are better/newer cameras and lenses… and yet I love those little buggers.

I started with the OMD-1. It’s now with son #2. I have the Om-1 but sadly I don’t have faith in OM systems. The next body will be the GH-7 as I am getting into video. I just don’t see the same level of commitment OM systems has to the brand. I suspect they will do similar to what they did with Toshiba.

I had a Sony A7Riii and hated using it. It rubbed my knuckles against the lens, it was clunky to use, and the images SOOC had weord colours. Small, light and a huge sensor but never any connection or enjoyment using it.

Why is that camera with such a small sensor so big. Does it need to compensate . Many FF cameras these days are much smaller and probably much lighter, that seems to me a better choice. Why would you want a miniscule sensor. Better use your phone, that sensor is even smaller.

Question I sold my OM-1 for a Nikon Z63. And I don’t do videos, at all. But I was afraid that I was missing out on image quality. 20mpx vs 24mpx. And noise and lighting and Dynamic Range…. And I don’t do many portraits, but I do love that smooth creamy background. In the real world, by comparison, is there really a difference in image quality? If not, then I’d probably just swap back to Olympus. I miss the in camera stacking, I miss the in-camera ND filters. And I’ve only printed up to a 28x36, and the image looks good (from my OM-1) I haven’t printed anything from my Nikon yet. What are your thoughts to this? I shoot lots of landscape, some wildlife (birds and stills), macros, and some Astro. I don’t do a lot of cropping in, but I do pixel peep (bad habit I have picked up, no one that I know pixel peeps) So, if I’m talking about a big difference vs slightly a little, then I’ll probably go back. Just looking for a professional opinion here. Thank you, Brian
@ThePNWRiderWA
@ThePNWRiderWA 2 ай бұрын
I do professional landscape and wildlife work and I am using the OM -1. I tried the Sony A7 lll and honestly the photographs were no better even printed most often as 16 x 20. I have been using Olympus gear since the OMd -1. However, I am thinking this will be the last OM system body as I do not see the commitment to the Olympus brand. The next body will be the Panasonic as I’m doing video work more and more.

Hey Brian, you sound like my photography twin😂. I am not a professional, sorry... But I went through the same thoughts as you. Sold all my Olympus gear and went for the Canon R6. Amazing camera! Yes, it does perform better in low light, of course! I like to shoot in very grim conditions. But I can't really tell a difference of the printed images. BUT there is a huge difference in weight and cost! Plus, as you mentioned, other brands don't implement as much features as Olympus does. So, I ended up selling the R6, buying the 6Dii for family portraits and astro, but also I got the em1 iii which is my main camera. Best of both worlds😅. I am actually thinking about selling the Canon stuff completely... Chris has a video with astrophotography. Stunning images! Have you been able to shoot an astro photo like that yet? How often do you Go out and do astro photography? Does the amount of time you shoot astro justify the Investment? If you like macro, why switch system? Olympus is great for that! I had the Canon EF 100mm 2.8 L macro lens, certainly not the worst macro lens in the market, but I still prefer the Olympus 60mm. Are you sure the Nikon is a good camera for birds? I don't know any bird photographer using Nikon. Maybe Canon would be a better choice for that? Do you know mpb? Why don't you order a camera and a lens which you are really interested in, try it out, compare, and then decide? You won't waste money that way.
