That's not the end of the movie. It closes with a scene of the prisoners rebuilding the wall, they pass by the stone marked with Aguilar's name and the movie ends with a shot of the stone marked "Eugene R Irwin U.S. Army". I'll also point out that you left out the reason why they took the flag and revolted against the warden. In order for a change of command, the commanding officer (the warden in this case) must resign (which he refused) or be relieved of duty. In this case, losing control of the prisoners under his command was grounds for transfer or dismissal. Irwin explains this to the other prisoners and that's why it came to be.

Remember, you can't please people, and command a brigade with five battalions if your leadership is worse. Trust me, your ruling capabilities can't last long, because the true leader has a great charisma with good credit for being a leader in terms of commanding a brigade, from my past, lots of people chose me to command a single platoon, not just because I'm tall and skillful, it's because of my good credits on how I handle many people in my circle.

From my previous 4th deployment, I handle a platoon of balanced men, I managed to bring em back home all safe, yah know in a platoon there's always few îdîots like a new born infant, and that is a daily challenge to deal with as a Lieutenant, to keep young immature marines alive, so they can still have an option to enjoy the gift of life, when we completed the 35 tasks in scorching hot classified location, they want me to command a company and raise my rank to Captain which has 200-245 men, but I refused, because I can't take the burdens if one of them get killed, 200 people are too many if you know what I mean, a single platoon is hard core to keep everyone alive, what more in one company with 200 men? However, I told young Marines in my Platoon before we got flight back at C130, I told them to retire, because not all commanding officers are the same, now I'm happy to retire after 5yrs of service, and doing some business to continue a civil life.

You asked a good question. I thought about it too. But I later realize that the movie recap was poor with the story narration. Due to the cruel treatment from the prison commander on the prisoners, the General wanted the prison commander to be changed (or replace). There's a law in the constitution that says that a prison commander will be relieved of his duty if majority of the prisoners are against him, or if he can't control majority of the prisoners. The General was looking at how to use this law to the prisoner's advantage, hence the rebel.

Word prison can be replaced for jail or penitentiary, correctional centre, jailhouse or even facility. Prisoner for inmate. Using even that little would make the narration sound so much better. U get a Fail in English class
