Wonderful stuff this - thank-you for the time and trouble, I really did enjoy every minute! The Davison era was my entry point to Doctor Who really, so seeing the trip through 'Doctor Who Weekly' took me back to when I discovered issues in the school Comic Bin early on in Junior School - when the weather was poor we would be kept in a classroom, there was a 'bin' with old Comics, and among the 'Star Wars Weekly' and 'Topper' etc were issues from the first year or two of DWW, I remember them so vividly, and the cover design is still electric today - put *that* design on the shop shelves today and it would jump out at you from across the shop floor... they knew how to grab you in those days. I never saw the magazine in my area over the following years, so thought nothing of it as comics came and went back then. But on occasion I did see some Specials in newsagents, and I recognised them immediately as you showed them off - they tended to be a little expensive on my pocket money, but I did buy at least two of them I remember. Quite a treat back then to have this broader glimpse into the wider Doctor Who world. The look at the Toby Jugs was another stand-out segment - I have never seen the full set, these are so very rare as full sets I doubt there are more than a handful of fans/collectors who even have them as a complete set. They were a real luxury item, like Danbury Mint at the time, they aren't for all tastes no, but as a rarity they sort of typify how very scarce this early 90s memorabilia is today. I do have a friend who bought a lot of this stuff at the time, he got the full Danbury figure collection for example, which cost a small fortune, but does look nice on his shelf still! I feel that when you talk of this stuff, the 1980s landscape, you do need to emphasise just how scarce all of this stuff tended to be. I never saw DWM on the shop shelves as I say, not until 1993 did I discover it by chance, in WH Smith. But for things like Pencil cases and even t-shirts, no. Not a chance. About the only thing I saw in those days was the ceramic Police Box/Money Box, in around 1982/83, in Woolworths, I had to have it. And it took me at least four weeks to save for it... it didn't last a week as my mum broke it while cleaning. But it was a good life lesson in a way as it was one of those events that taught me the need to thrift - save up for what you like. Today, we are spoilt rotten.💫

Thanks so much for the comment David. I guess I was lucky living in a big city like Plymouth. There was a huge WH Smiths and some specialist shops. Joing the DWAS in 1983 also opened many doors as did going to conventions. Great times.🙂

Just stumbled across this, what an epic collection! I'm not a collector per se but I do have a lot of DW books (mainly the Virgin and BBC novels from the 90's and the comic strip collections) and I did spot a few items here that I either do still or did used to own! I'm old enough to remember getting the mini-comics free with Golden Wonder and also had the program from when I saw the Ultimate Adventure (these long lost, alas!) Some very cool-looking ephemera here, stuff I'd never even seen or heard of before and I've been a fan since 1983-ish, when I did used to hide behind the sofa during Davison's era!

Excellent stuff, glad you enjoyed this one. George's collection is just superb. It's really comprehensive. I hid behind the sofa in Pertwee's Season 11🙂

Loved watching this.I have managed to buy a fair amount of Doctor Who merchandise from my childhood over the decades, but there is stuff im still after that is in this video.The red Tom Baker Doctor Who board game featured here which i would love to own brings back very happy memories.I never got to learn how to play the thing, but just looking at it takes me back.

Thanks Brian. I don't think that boardgame is too expensive. Not sure how is it'll be to find one today though. Glad you enjoyed the video🙂

Beautiful collection. I have a decent amount of the Dapol figures, but back in the 80s and 90s it was a devil of a time to get Doctor Who collectibles here in the U.S. I ordered SO much stuff from England (I remember being on the phone with the mother of the guy who made the Sevans model kits), until FINALLY a store opened up in Indiana that had connectons in England, and was able to get a wide variety of DW collectibles. They're still in business after all these years....Who North America, and I still get nearly all my Doctor Who stuff from them.

Fantastic! It's always been tricky getting hold of the merchandise in the states, especially back then. Stuart Evans is a great guy and we got to know him well. Never spoke to his mum though🙂

Amazing collection. I was wondering if you could help with something, or perhaps your friend here. In the 1960s there was a show called "Out of the Unknown" which featured the Daleks in an episode called; "Get Off My Cloud". I've heard that it is possible that photographs from the episode were published in a "Doctor Who" fanzine at around 1986. Are you able to shed any more light on this?
@JulesBurtАй бұрын
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I don't think I've seen any pictures from the Out of the Unknown episode you're referring to but I will ask George next time we meet up👍

I loved Jules’ laugh at the mention of a Chibnall handkerchief. I wish they would cut out about 10 mins from modern Who episodes, the pacing is flabby & I find it unwatchable as a result.

You're not alone in that but its under new management so things might change.
