It’s often not possible to know what we do want until we experience what we don’t want. With every decision, we will experience consequences. And then, we’ll use those outcomes as a jumping off point to something different (and better) in our future. Great points!

This video made me think about the idea of regret and where I find myself at this stage in my life. It's strange this idea of regret. I've been thinking about it a lot and yes there are items that I have bought and looking back now I would not buy again, but back then it felt like the right thing to do and if i'm honest it probably was the exact thing I needed. If it was expensive or took up too much space or I only used it once - I needed to learn that lesson. Now I take a lot more care when buying items and true deep regret is when I do something knowing that this is truly not what I want or I am forced to make this decision because of someone else. Great vid. You are inspiring me to start up my youtube channel again. :)

As a fellow year-to-year moving minimalist, I echo a lot of your regrets. I've always wanted a cozy personal library in my home, so getting rid of physical books was heartbreaking this past year. I kept a dozen I haven't read and all my design/architecture books, having simply accepted that I'll need to hire movers next time to haul the heavy boxes (plastic bins and a dolly can help).
@kashiichan2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I decided a while ago, after moving house every 12 months for 5 years, that I would not be buying any more books unless I could prove that I would reread them at least once a year. Since then, I've gotten rid of a lot of owned books and started spending much more time at my local library. Both my house and my wallet are much better for it.

I'm a semi minimalist too. What I mean by this is there are certain aspects of my life where I don't want to spend on more than one thing of the same type, but there are a few other things, where I kinda splurge. But recently, I have been getting more into minimalism, and it truly makes me feel at ease and makes my mind feel a bit calm.

I can easily relate to the iMac stuff you mentioned and I truly wished never happened and I could go back in time… 100 % agree. The shiny objects syndrome is real and frustration not buying is real too and more real is the frustration after buying it… (if that makes sense), book wise 🤔 50/50 … and will depend on which situation in life you are. On quality stuff, it’s a must stick with quality. Nice video very insightful and I wish people will relates to this so they can avoid the real pain and frustration of shiny objects and the regrets of the afterwards buying.

Solution for books: lokal library (if you have one). (if they don't have the book you want to read, you can usually ask them to get it or to borrow it from another library) + you can read the books physically + no (permanent) clutter + you can simply bring it back, if you don't like it + cheaper - you can't write your notes inside them

I don't really buy other types of books physically like novels, Japanese comics, etc. What would y'all recommend if I ever wanted to switch to using reference books in a digital format? "buy cheap buy twice" and "I don't need a professional camera" are at odds. I usually go cheap the first time, but if I need more or I need to upgrade or replace, then I invest more carefully in things I understand and use.
@aimi-838 Жыл бұрын
That‘s what she is saying as well. Buy cheap buy twice refers to clothes and other things that have a tendency to detoriate quickly. As you said yourself, you can adjust equipment when you need it, but smth like clothes, you have to wear clothing whether you want to or not. So it is better to invest in good quality clothing rather than cheap out on it. But a camera, you don‘t need a professional camera to start taking photos. Sure, the quality is different, but unless you work professionally, you absolutely do not need a professional camera. But you 100% need clothing, so that‘s that. I hope this helps ^^
