The ruby was replaced by emeralds because it was confused as redstone and if someone is colourblind it is hard to identify it

I don't think being colorblind would make much of a difference in this situation, they clearly have different shapes and there's other current items that look waaay more like redstone, such as glowstone dust. Not to mention iron armor and diamond armor are nearly identical to green/red colorblind people.

Notch had one of the best ideas for 1.8 with the Dreamland (Sky Dimension) and he threw it away for a boring barren floating chunk of rock in a empty black void.
