NEW RELEASE: Modal Jazz Piano Masterclass! Dive into the captivating realm of modal jazz and unlock the secrets of soloing over V7 chords. In this live session, we'll be exploring the timeless classic "All Blues" by the legendary Miles Davis, set in the infectious 6/8 swing groove.
We'll navigate through the rich harmonic landscape of modal jazz, where static modal vamps provide the canvas for boundless improvisation. Our focus will be on those V7 chords, the harmonic pillars that propel the music forward with their inherent tension and release.
Whether you're a seasoned pianist looking to expand your improvisational vocabulary or a curious newcomer eager to explore the nuances of modal jazz, this masterclass promises to be an enlightening and inspiring journey into the heart of jazz piano improvisation.
The free sheet music download link will be provided during the livestream to attendees.

Paul's lessons are great, one of the best resources on the web. He knows what makes a great jazz line, voicing, arrangement and solo and he can explain it and back it up with beautiful playing examples.

Hi Paul, do you think it would seem easier to read and get the feel if it was written in 3/4 rather than 6/8? Lewis (UK)

Yes, I do. It's typically written in 6/8 though.

@Jazzmentl i have seen a copy written in 3/4 too. I'm also looking at Gravy Waltz, the Oscar Peterson arrangement, which has a great jazz/blues feel to it

This would be a lot easier to follow with your keyboard that shows the notes played.

I'll see how I could add that visual feature at the piano for the Masterclasses. I normally only use keyboard for the tutorials I produce for KZbin.
