aah, sweet. I had this as a promotional freebee. My old man borrowed it and kept it for ages, obsessed with it. I visited him and he had recorded key commands to call Fin Fin. I clicked one and heard father's voice shouting: Fin Fin, get your bloody arse over here. I was in stitches :oDDD

I remember playing this as a little kid. Until looking it up just now, I didn't even know you could treat Fin Fin poorly. I always did everything I could help him. Unironically taught me a lot about building friendships :D

I loved FinFin. I hate that the program isn't sold anymore. I miss the little guy 😊

+Lauren Janell I still see it on ebay sometimes, if you want a physical copy. Usually missing the microphone or SmartSensor, whatever happened to come with that version, but you don't need either to play. You do need an older computer or a virtual machine, though. It's pretty finicky for me, I could only get it to reliably work on a Win98 virtual box, but I've heard of people managing to run it on XP with a fanpatch.

+GameboyArmor I actually still have the software, smart sensor and plushie. If I had an old windows 98 laptop laying around I'd use it just for FinFin and my other old software titles

+Lauren Janell Nice! I got into archival at the exact wrong time to get any of the extra bits and bobs, haha. Maybe someday I'll get around to snagging them, but not immediately~ I know that feeling. Virtual boxes are nice but they aren't as neat as actually booting up an old computer and playing around. Plus, for me, having everything physically separated like that is a lot easier to keep track of.

It would be awesome if there had been more development on the Fin Fin platform. It was the beginning of the virtual reality interaction and that was in 1997. In 20 years there's been no new developments, really. I want there to be a way to run Fin Fin on a windows 95 emulator on a Raspberry Pi 2
@PixelationCorrugation8 жыл бұрын
+Inferniooo With the current trend of indie groups making games, and the interest in retro-style games, maybe we'll get to see something interesting happen. Then again, maybe not. Fin Fin occupies a weird nongame niche, so it's possible it will get passed by. Would be a shame, it's a really interesting little bit of software.

Flapping gets annoying, but it's cute. I read about this in a kids mag back in 97 or 98. It took my family FOREVER to get a computer, and that's not exaggerating. I Don't think we had one until I was 11 or 12. Unfortunately, I never got to play it for whatever reason but I had a great time with the dogz and babyz games. I sometimes want to see videos for Fin Fin, but can't ever remember if it's spelled with an f or a ph and how many n's there are. Thanks for sharing, now I can just pull it up from my playlist!

I've been wrapping my head around virtual machines and Windows 7 compatibility issues just to try and play this game. I'm using a 32-bit Windows 7 VirtualBox guest... a horribly painful workaround, as I only have Windows 10 x64 (FinFin is a 16-bit program). They need a VR remake. _Now._ With the wise wisdom of Megatech, David Jefferis once said that FinFin will control A/C systems and food stocks in the 21st century.

Fin Fin is a 32-bit program. Not 16-bit. However, getting it to work on anything other than Windows 9x/Me can be tough.

It's so strange that in all the pictures/videos I've looked up of Fin Fin not one shows him with different colors. And I haven't seen an article or anything that mentions that he could change color. I don't know if it was just in my generation of the game (the US version) but, I distinctly remember you could change Fin Fin's color by feeding him the same color berries a bunch of times in a row. It took a little while and Fin Fin sometimes got annoyed when you kept switching out berries until you found the right color, but I used to do it all the time to turn him pink or yellow or a brighter green, etc. I find it so bizarre that no one seems to mention that feature or show any pictures of different colored Fin Fins! I swear it was a real thing you could do in the game. Apparently, I'm the only one who ever did it, though??
@PixelationCorrugation4 жыл бұрын
I know a few people did it regularly but not many. I left him the basic color because I like it best, though! :) Edit: Emge's finfin fanpage has a full set of the colors shown in the extras section of Finfin's World
