Good job Phillip & way to go on being transparent throughout the filming. We hunt because we love it & appreciate what God has given us. Bald headed deer eat great too, but no one can argue that there is huge thrill in seeing & harvesting a stud buck... that's not the only reason "WE" hunt, but it is a wonderful driving force that has to be in the mix. We pray for that big boy to show up! What a hunt & excellent video. Honestly during the emotions & I could feel the "urge" for you to go ahead & track that buck the 1st evening... done it before many times & have had mixed results, but not worth doing if your are wise. Thanx for sharing your wisdom, passion, & God honoring behavior... God bless you guys & Merry Christmas. !!!

I will say I am a big time hunter I usually shoot 2-3 deer a year that doesn't mean I eat all of them I save a small doe and take the other meat to donation. You'd be surprised at how many people actually hunt deer just to donate them. As bad as that kinda sounds it's the truth it really helps families in need for food.

He did the ethical thing. He backed out, Why push the deer further than what it needs to be. And yes, obvisley it was coyote food, that is part of the great game of hunting. There probably wasn't much meat left over anyway, just the back straps and the hindquarters. AND P.S to anyone who said they don't hunt for the meat, They wouldn't be sponsored by Havalon Knives. These guys are professionals for a reason, They represent the sport the right way.

200" deer? Seriously? He'll go 150" gross max. I hunt for meat too, but one mature buck has as much as 2 does. We have been blessed with a healthy population of deer, it's our job as hunters to manage it accordingly. I don't discriminate however I'll lay the smack down on a slick head. You have to keep the big picture in mind, and make sure this resource is here for generations to come!

I see why you shot to the left. After you drew your bow you leaned way to the right. It's usually not a problem but you didn't lean from the waist and therefore put a slight twist on the string. Try to recreate it sitting on a bucket and you'll see. Nice buck.

crazymountain777 You're spot on brother!! I noticed the same thing, as soon as he leaned over to get the clear shot!! Some people get caught up in the heat of the moment, and take shots that they haven't practiced!! This is exactly why it's so important to practice shooting from various positions (standing, kneeling, sitting, leaning, and twisting), to be more properly prepared when these opportunities present themselves in the field!! One little thing can change your anchor points, the way you hold your bow, or compensate your normal posture, from the way you are used to shooting during practice!! Beautiful Buck, but it's too bad the meat couldn't have been harvested as well!! Where I live....gut shot animals rarely make it through the night, before predators take advantage of the situation!!

rocky armstrong that's a fact buddy! A hunted animal has the best death they could ever have! If people think about it when animals die naturally in the wild it's almost always a slow disease, starvation, predation or just old age laying down for a week. Humans hope to die in their sleep old, deer hope to be killed by human when they're old!

+mike doyon some times if it's not a heart shot or double lung hit the animal will run while he is bleeding and may pose for a short time so if the hunter give a chase at that point all he's gonna get him scared and the animal will keep on running . Some times they pose after say a 100 to 500 yard and they stay put and this is where they die so all you have to do is follow the blood trail . give him time to bleed to death.Some time they run a 50 or 60 yard and pose to collapse in it's place where he posed.The key is the shot placement that's why you take your time before you shoot , a gut shot is very messy and will spoil the meat and it can take a day for the animal to die while he is on the run far away from the hunter's reach , so in another word the animal is lost . They are strong,fast and have lots of energy , I am a bow hunter not a rifle one . In rifle hunt is a bit different , if the hunter got his sight fixed right he or she will not have this problem for his shot placement will be more accurate. It is good know the range and windage before taking the shot , a minor adjustment to the scope will do the job ; also the ammo plays a roll as well , there are what is called the grain so for example if I am taking a moose using a rifle I would get heavy bullet grain like 180 to 200 gr like 338 federal , so the mass and kinetic energy as you read also plays a roll for a successful hunt e.g. fast kill , same thing for the arrow head you have to have heavy grain for a kill when it comes to big game . Never come close to the hunt before you make sure that the animal is dead , a swing of antlers can be deadly . I personally don't go after trophy to mount on the wall so if I use a rifle I try to get a head shot that is fast kill and I won't have a bloody meat so it's all used up no spoil plus I have an intact hide no holes in it

you obviously haven't tracked a deer at night that has had a terrible shot, especially a big mature buck. If you bump a big deer like that once, he will probably bed down again. but twice? three times? that thing will keep running and stop only when he is physically incapable. Possibly miles. So really the ethical thing to do here is to back out like he did.
@terryteague164

Joshua Henn really? the buck died a slow death then to be ravaged by coyotes but at the end celebrated for a recovery. i hunt for meat, horns are a possible conclusion, killed for food, not for a video.
@joshuahenn6189
@joshuahenn6189 10 жыл бұрын
Terry Teague Same here bud. But luckily he doesn't have to. Are you really that dense to come watch a pro hunter shoot deer with the intention of meat? No its for entertainment. And no one wants to watch some guy sling arrows at small bucks and does all the time. Plus there is only a certain amount of venison a family can put away in 9 months. Recovering that buck was the main priority here, and he thats exactly what he did. All i am saying he made an effort in the end to recover that deer, regardless of antlers or meat. The decision wasn't made on antlers only, it was to actually find the deer regardless of the shape it was in.

Got to my second one before it had fully expired and it wasn't a great feeling knowing it was gasping for air n life n hearing that. I am also all about making damn sure you have a correct shot placement n a clean line of sight n proper distance. ect. guns or bows no need to maim or injure any animal when it can be avoided. I also see the need to take EVERY effort to find your kil or possibly injured animal before u stop looking. Seen some folks not really care if the find their kills or not. Those folks are not Sportsmen. God Bless u Guys n Stay safe out there.

Rabbit has very little cholesterol... So Yes I am going to hunt and eat what is healthy for me. Yes they are beautiful animals but when it comes to a decision between beauty and my health?
