I’ve painted tiles before and am so so so happy with the result. Just make sure to degrease them really well before. I also sanded them but that’s totally optional.

Few days late but when you do update the stairs, maybe you could add led strip lighting under each step to brighten up the stairwell. If it can be done inexpensively lol
