A More Approximate Position of the Planets using JPL Ephemerides (Spirographs!!)

Here I use some software I created on Github to plot the orbits of the planets and make some nice videos to watch and enjoy. I hope you enjoy this as well.

Would I be able to use this to get models for other star systems? I'm currently doing research on HD 156279 and would love to make a model like this for a presentation

Absolutely. As long as you have the orbital elements you'd be able to.

12:44 so we have geo & heliocentric models. Is there a way to retrieve Ephemeris data using a multicentric model. Say we lived on mars im curious how those animations would look even for exoplanets & asteroids.

The model outputs the x and y coordinates in the J2000 frame including the position of Mars. So if you want to do a reference frame transfer you would just need to substract the J2000 frame positions from the Mars X/Y coordinates.

Where can we cross check whether the longitude, latitude, distance etc of planets we get from our program are valid or not?

Unfortunately I don't know. The JPL website maybe? ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/orbits.html

can you tell me how I can update the universe code to see the earth based orbits. I saw you do it at the end.

Looks like on line 55 and 56 I offset the x,y coordinates of each planet by the position of Earth. Make sense?

@@CarlosMontalvo251 I think so. It's been a while since I looked at it and I'm very noobey with python. I'm gonna follow along the video after I'm done with my python bootcamp. Thanks for the reply
