Lisette and Ian Withers began their unexpected adventure with elephants 16 years ago when they took in Harry and Sally, two orphaned elephant calves.
Their story is that of the elephants of Knysna Forest, in South Africa, where a legendary herd once lived. Hunted by humans, the herd saw its 500 members disappear over a span of scarcely twenty years.
Thanks to the work of Lisette and other devoted enthusiasts, the herd has been able to rise again from its ashes. Lisette now enjoys a special relationship with these large companions who have become like her own "kids".
In her sanctuary, she takes in elephants from all over the country. She transmits her knowledge to the population and most particularly to children, whom she aims to educate to respect nature and pachyderms.

I was okay with this video until I seen them ride the elephant's and training them.😡🤬 Just bad mahoots 😡🤬

I felt the same. It is probably harmless but it reminds us of elephants being used in Asia for work and tourism $$$. I'd never seen African elephants ridden.

The bull hooks in the carers hands are also very telling.

Started well until seeing she deprives birds of their God-given flight. If they are able why hasn't she released the birds? Birds would prefer to fly than live with her. Though her huge ego, hard convinced.

This was good until I seen the bullhooks then there being ridden. Both are a big NO NO !!! Let the elephants be elephants and live freely

Agree. What Adine Roode does with her elephants at HERD is responsible animal husbandry.

48:42 Ah yes, the logic of a poacher. They’re too stupid to realize that once there’s no more snake oil money coming from their slaughtering of such revered animal, they’re sol. That legit sounds like a justification of poaching. That’s gross!
