Thank you for sharing this painting. The brush work is amazing. The subtle warm and cool, light and shadow helps define the texture and modeling. I love how a pile of oil paint can be “buttery” and the artist uses the buttery texture of oil paint to paint butter. Also the strokes defining the cloth and the eggs are wonderful. Incredible economy of brush strokes - especially the knife. I don’t think I could achieve this. The dark background also sets off the buttery yellow and glowing light on the cloth and eggs. I appreciate how much I learn from your videos. I don’t live by the museums you visit, so this is a real treat for me. ❤

I really enjoy bringing art museums to my viewers (figuratively, of course). It's such a joy. I'm glad you enjoy it, Pam. Loved your commentary...

Yellow and other paint colours start the yellow looking towards green, or at least cool. It is applying the right amount of colour to create this affect. The still life pictures look like Chardin.

I'm loving these videos for how you can get into the artist's thinking. Your mention of 'painting with anything' made me laugh. My studio was in Montclair, NJ for ten years, not far from Mountainside hospital which sits on the former estate of George Inness. A fellow artist visiting his studio once wrote that Inness would get into these 'obsessive creative storms'. Yes, he'd use everything, and once even tore off his shirt to wipe down a red glaze he'd just put on a painting. We all use odd tools from time to time, but so far, I've always managed to stay dressed while I work =)

What a great story, Dave. Thanks for sharing that. I'd say "all that matters is the end result" but....um...staying dressed while working is a good thing - lol!

I am both an artist and over the last few years I’ve become a home cook too, and I can easily say that there is a FINE depiction of how much butter I feel like needing to cook (to be fair no one complains so heaps of butter seem to enhance the flavor)

I have to admit, I'm a fan of real butter as well...It makes everything taste a little better.

Any thoughts about Joseph Bail ?

Another really talented artist. I love the natural poses of his figure paintings....he really captures charm. Love his stills, as well. His paintings of eggs have a similar intimate feeling like this piece (although I haven't seen any of his paintings in person, that I know of). Your thoughts?

Lets see you show the same appreciation for a digital painting. If you can do one, you can do the other.
@PinkWytchBytch Жыл бұрын
If that’s your niche then why are you here complaining about someone admiring a traditional piece? Go watch someone copy paste a color palette off Pinterest or something if that’s what your into, but don’t dismiss the long running history and tradition of the actual practice that made “digital art” possible in the first place. I will take looking at a hand painted pile of butter over some digitized fanservice art any day

@@PinkWytchBytch Your comment is equally ignorant to the first person. How can you even balk at digital techniques, that aren't even accurate to your overgeneralised, bitter, and uneducated opinion, while on a smartphone? Lol. There are plenty of digital artists applying purely traditional techniques that will suit your "sensibilities" and help you curb your envy if that's what you'd prefer.
