Brent, I just want to say that I admire your efforts in keeping the history alive in Cerro Gordo. My Father was a Geologist who visited there quite often back in the 1990's when he was investigating fault lines in Owens Valley. He was a friend of Jody's and when I was about 15 years old I used to stay up there with him sometimes. Jody was a great lady and so full of life. I feel very fortunate to have met her. I remember staying in the bunkhouse a couple times and my friend and I got to stay in the American Hotel all by ourselves for a night. Needless to say, we had some interesting experiences while staying there. Even though I am 40 years old now, I still recall having some great memories from my childhood there, and I hope all goes well with your ventures in preserving the town.

Great job telling the story of Cerro Gordo. I live in Los Angeles County and have been there many times over the years going back to the early 1990's. Our camping group used to camp at Conglomerate Mesa and come up from the back side through the Saline Valley. I've also been up from the front side and from the Swansea to Cerro Gordo Trail. In the early years Jody guided us (I have pictures of my friend in the operators chair of the hoist.) In the later years we were guided by Mike and then by Robert the last few times. Last time there was just before you guys bought it. It's a shame about the hotel, hope you can bring it back to it's former glory!

Mister, you continue to keep it so real and quite fascinating for us who are following your adventure. You narrate so very wonderfully your passion for what you are doing. Mucho Gracious.

Haha! I knew you were special, but hearing you say the word “bibliography “ makes you exceptional in my heart. Bless you & bless your work Brent.

Thanks for giving us all this content, it’s grate. An even bigger thank you for the new game you’ve inspired - take a drink every-time you say “Cerro gordo”

I just stumbled across your account and I love it so so much. There's so much melancholy for a time we were not even born yet.

Love the vids, keep it up! FYI you missed a one-second snippet of audio at 12:36, but it's hard to see those things sometimes.

There is an old legend told of a boat filled with silver that sunk in the owens lake.
@MalteseCross4 жыл бұрын
It would have been Silver Ore, unlike Gold, silver needs to be refined from Iron, copper, zinc, malachite, just to name a few, I have a 10 lbs chunk of Silver Ore from mountains close by, it contains about 60% to 70% silver.. but with Silver being roughly $25 an ounce there is no money to be made from Silver Ore anymore.

You should metal detect around those houses. I bet you find 1800’s coins.

I’m sure someone has already scoured the premises for coins with metal detectors But still would be fun if he would allow it. But he owns everything on and in the place.

My guess is that he sold out when offered enough money. A lot of people who discovered famous ore bodies sold out before the mines became famous
@everythingsalright11214 жыл бұрын
@@liamroggenkamp probably. This happened with the comstock lode. Over nearly 20 years they pulled out hundreds of billions of dollars worth of gold but mostly silver. The original claim owners sold out for what was considered to be obscene profits at the time. Selling early was fairly common, since you could quit while you were ahead. It wasnt till later they realized just how big the deposit was.
@liamroggenkamp4 жыл бұрын
@@everythingsalright1121 Same thing happened at the famous Empire Mine. Original discoverer sold the claim before it made the huge amounts of money it did.

Cerro Gordo has been added to my bucket list. Thank you, Brent for introducing me to Cerro Gordo.

Loved the old picture of the huge wood burning stove, from the hotel. As I've mentioned, before, my brother and I and several other off roaders came up to Cerro Gordo every Easter weekend, for several years, back in the 1970s. We would put in some time and effort to clean up the stove and then would have a big pancake breakfast, on Sunday. Really great times and lots of fond memories. I live in Arizona, now, but really want to come back up to Cerro Gordo one day to meet you and chat with you. I want to thank you and say how much I appreciate you overseeing Cerro Gordo and preserving and promoting the town. Much appreciated.
