Despite recent rainfall and high water, Murray cod opening 2021 was certainly one of the better cod opening sessions that I can remember. I have had much worse!

You're not wrong mate. I remember as a kid how infrequently we use to catch them. Fisheries managers have done an amazing job with them.

Definitely a cod opening to remember, well done to you both. I try to remember to let the Stumpjumpers to float to the top when they are at my feet rather than lift it out straightaway, sometimes I even remember to do it. The hesitant fish, Cod, Yellowbelly and even Redfin, will make one last lunge for the lure before it goes out of their strike zone. They catch themselves.

What a ripper start to start to season mate 👍🏼 Great job as always Robbie hope the cod keep smashing lure all the way through the open season for ya 🙂 As you probably know I don't have cod locally so I went bass fishing 🎣 Least I got a few after a quiet start to the afternoon I still put a few big lures out just incase, You never know I seen a few pics of Murry cod with a Nepean river background, Unfortunately nothing moves in a photo and more chance they were Sydney fish market cod than Nepean river cod hahaha

Thanks mate. hahaha I do not know that area at all, but I do know there are a few species of cod that look similar to Murray cod, such as the Mary River cod, but I don't know exactly where they are found.

@@robbiefishing yeah mate Mary river cod come from exactly there haha My local the nepean is fed from warragamba dam 👍🏼 The other species you were thinking of eastern cod and unfortunately even they seem a bit far to end up here But I have read that once warragamba dam was stocked with them, But we are talking a dam full of huge rainbow and brown trout, Most would have been eaten. I have heard of another dam that definitely was stocked with them 💯 and does feed into the river eventually but then again I don't know what else is stocked in that dam... Awesome session Robbie! How do you guys go tying the braid directly to the lure? I have always used a length of fluorocarbon leader between the braid and lure, I've had some bad experiences when I haven't used a leader.

Thanks mate. Neither of us have ever had an issue. We both tie straight to a line clip. We discuss this often because we keep getting told were doing it all wrong. haha Maybe one day I will hook a monster and its teeth with cut through my braid, and if it does, well I will only have myself to blame.

@@robbiefishing hahaha I know that Rohan @ RKJ does the same as well, no leader at all. When I first started with braid I lost heaps of fish because of no leader, I had far better experiences once I started to use fluorocarbon. But it was also fairly light braid too, maybe the heavier braid provides far more margin for error in that regard. One thing I do know is I won't ever use mono for leader again!
