To give you a little back story on this song I grew up with these guys and when they recorded this song they gave it the name Queen of the Reich and then said that would be a cool band name so that's how they got their band name queensrych

To answer your question, YES. Geoff Tate still performs, I just saw him perform a month ago in Vegas. He still sounds great. Not like he did in 1984, but he still rocks. He did the opening scream to Queen of the Ryche and my brain exploded inside my skull. I was once again a screaming 16 year old kid watching him sing live in 1986 Rage for Order tour in Los Angeles. Amazing singer. One of the greatest singers in heavy metal history.

Queen of the Reich was one of their first songs, it came out on their self titled EP. Also on this concert video (I still have the VHS tape of that 1984 concert in Tokyo) was "Take Hold of the Flame" from their first full length album, The Warning. And the "Roads to Madness" track that you reacted to was also from The Warning. Their original EP was a watershed moment where Queensryche started to build an underground legion of metal fans, unreal level of playing and musicality for their first metal offering. I was taken in by the EP and listen to it and the next three albums to this day. Next was The Warning, a landmark statement album that established Queensryche as a legit Metal Band and they toured with many headlining bands and consistently equaled or out performed them. Next album was Rage for Order, it went more techno edgy but the metal progressive remained. Then came the much-acclaimed best concept album ever, Operation Mindcrime. After that I struggled to gel with later albums even tho there were some catchy tunes here and there. Queensryche always seemed to have a divergent element from album to album following The Warning, their EP and The Warning were familiar, less divergent, where The Warning was more like an evolutionary progression of the EP.

Totally agree with you friend. I first saw these guys in 1986 Rage for Order tour. I was 16, my brain literally melted inside my skull when he sang Take Hold of the Flame and Queen of the Ryche. Truly one of the most outstanding bands of the 80's and 90's.

It's probably been posted already, but this was off of the EP. Their first album. Queen of the Ryche is their signature song, like The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again," Zeppelins "Stairway," or Yes's "Roundabout." At the time, this was also one of the most intense metal songs of any band. Comparable to Judas Pries, or yes - Iron Maiden - but this particular song was heavier than just about anything those bands had released up until that time.

I also have the VHS of this concert (just bought DVD). When I'm feeling down, my go-to is any KZbin video of Queensryche being reacted to by anybody but particularly the accredited Vocal Coaches. It sounds corny but some bring me to tears. All of these experts having their minds blown!!

@@stargazer4625 I read that it was Mindcrime that was one of the first digitally recorded albums, and that their label hated the way it sounded, wanting a lusher, more listener-friendly recording. But the band thought it was just right for the Mindcrime story and fought to keep it as is, which the label finally agreed to.

LOL...when you said "...like Iron Maiden" I laughed. Because yes, when they had first formed up in Washington, they did many Iron Maiden covers. This was the first Queensryche song (and EP) I heard back in the early 80's...and all was good in the world. This should be good watching you react to it.

The songs with vocal gymnastics seem to be more popular with reactors. You can find tracks on all their albums that are much more subdued and thought provoking. Musicianship and having a social consciousness became more important to them collectively as the band grew in maturity, popularity and gained more autonomy from record companies. It’s ok, not everyone gets QR. I strongly believe that the EP and the first 2 albums were more what their label wanted and the albums following were more of the direction the band wanted to travel. It was more about the quality and message of the music on their later albums than the bells, whistles and gimmicks that made a lot of bands “successful”.

Not wanting to be confrontational but to me Queenrsyche got more boring over time, the EP and the first 2 albums are easily their best stuff imo, Mindcrime was ok then it all went wrong
@purplekat5864
@purplekat5864 Жыл бұрын
@@locusmortis I too don't want to be confrontational, but I see their EP and following five albums as just different aspects of the band's writing journey. They seemed to always want to break fresh ground in their songwriting, but still retained the intensity and somewhat dark edge that characterize most QR songs. They were very diverse in what they could write. Not every band is so versatile.

Lol well, THAT whole 1982 album is an EP, with a grand total of 4 songs, or 5, if you get the later version. But I most certainly HIGHLY recommend it! This song is the opener, then Nightrider, then Blinded, and closing with The Lady Wore Black. Phenomenal debut EP! Take Hold Of The Flame came out on the first full album, in 84, The Warning, which also is a phenomenal album, as is Rage For Order. To me, thats the best Queensryche. After that was Operation:Mindcrime, which is amazing, but due to the format, they’d changed and to my ears, something got lost. It’s just different, I know … like comparing The Who’s Tommy to their work prior to that album.

Geoff Tate was the bomb back in the day. Not sure if he blew his voice, or just decided he didn't want to do it anymore but when they moved away from this sound they totally lost me. I still jam out to the first 3 albums all the time. I even really like the brand new stuff with Todd La Torre. It's not the same as this, but still WAY better than the "lost years" to me and my musical tastes.
