I just bought this meter and going to use it on my Chevy Express van tomorrow. I played around with it and I agreed the Included clamps are garbage. I paid $105, and I may just send the thing back as it's a lot of money for a device where you end up having to buy additional cables right away.

This is too much. There are other models now for about $30 and does the same. The attachement is about $5 so that wouldn't be bad at all

After doing a little more research, yes it does appear for about 30 Bucks you can get a couple of cables to accomplish the same thing. I would say the hardest part of all of this is many times the problem is intermittent. I've watched a number of videos where a meter is placed between the negative cable and the battery and you can watch the voltage fluctuate over minutes. If you're not checking the fuse at the same time there's the power draw you can be chasing your tail. I'm hoping I can find my drain, but I did buy a power cutoff switch just in case. All last year my battery would go dead after a week. I doubt it has much life left in it. Still, much cheaper for me to try to find and pay some mechanic a $175 an hour. I have a feeling it has to do with the security system which never seems to completely shut off. I'm told the standing millivolt reading should be less than 50. For now, just waiting on cables.

Great video yet again buddy, glad to see the amp hound is helping you diagnose faster and make more money. I've got a set of the probes you added, sitting in my workshop drawer & rarely used for electronics repair. Thanks for the tip, I never thought of using them with the amp hound 👍.

I have an Amp Hound that is similar to the version 2 without the exra cables that you are not too impressed. I did not notice whether you had any beeps when you moved from fuse to fuse. Did you hear them? Supposed to be three beeps whenever any current flow is detected. The sound on my unit quit and a new replacement did not work as well. The design of the unit is helpful in isolating areas with current flow to help narrow down the problem. I am working on a 2003 LeSabre with intermittent current draws but second fuse box is in the back seat. I appreciate your video to show how easy this process can be.

The sound is different when there is current flowing through. It's helpful

I have seen this exact thing happen before on Hyundai's. Always make sure someone hasn't stuffed a fuse in a blank. For some reason this always seems to cause a draw on Hyundai's.

Hello brother. Great video. Can you give us more info on the extra probes you got with the tool. Like brand name. Thank you my friend.
I have tried three different AmpHounds where only one had intermittent sound which then quit altogether. Then two replacements where there is no sound at all. The metere work but it is more time consuming whem you have to look at each fuse to determine whether there is current flow. I noticed in different ads for the different versions that the case colors are different. The one you use is red. The ones I have seen on Amazon are ble. All of the ones I have received are green. The operating instructions for all of them are identical. Most of the red ones have a different name on them that are sold to professionals. Some of the blue ones also have another brand name on them. The retail prices vary from about $40 to over $120. The 2nd version has the clip on connectors for the fuses and the orientation of the display has been rotated. Perhaps the circuit boards have different capabilities. With the instructions all the same I would expect the boards to be the same.

What is the difference between amp hound and multimeter amp
@DallasAutoDiag Жыл бұрын
Both do the same. Amphound is designed to read current over fuses.

@@DallasAutoDiag multimeter won't do?
@DallasAutoDiag Жыл бұрын
@@prabuscross1.663 it does thats why I said both are the same. Amphound is designed just for this process and whith the correct setting it calculates the current automatically. Multimeter won't do that. You still have to take your reading and compare it to a table and do some math.
