As mentioned above, this is a daily occurrence but different levels of danger and currents etc. As this spot is when the river meets directly with the ocean creating a very powerful current mixture when they both meet together like in this video, the waves go absolutely crazy and will throw boats around like kids having a tantrum lol.

@raynz80158 жыл бұрын
+Jennifer Blair ..yes..they are crossing the Greymouth bar heading in to unload...nobody let alone experienced fishermen would fish there...the Grey river is in high flood and it is extremly dangerous to cross at that time...I think but am not sure that the reason for the outriggers are to help stabalise the boats...they are right in the mouth and somewhere there is a video of them after they got in and are motoring up the river to unload...if you listen to what the camera man is saying you will hear what he thinks of them...I did hear that they were boats from Nelson and maybe not that familar with the Grey mouth...and once they were committed to crossing..there is no turning back...I live on the West Coast and that video scares the crap out of me..lol...

I worked on a Trawler from Bluff many years ago,and he would do tuna fishing up that way,and crossing that particular bar was a nightmare,the skipper said there used to be a tide rip which would flow across the mouth of the Grey River and if you steered the wrong way you were gone for all money is this true? Just curious is all,as i never went on the Tuna trips.
@raynz80157 жыл бұрын
not sure about the rip there...but up the coast where i come from (Karamea) when out fishing with a rod there is nearly always a very strong northerly rip that i guess runs all the way up the coast...makes it difficult to get the sinker to hold...so can guess at times it would make it difficult heading over the Grey bar to keep your heading...plus the time it took those boats to get in I guess they were not making much headway against the flood waters..just glad i wasn't on those boats..lol..

The key point, overlooked by most people, is that telephoto lenses distort distance and depth, often presenting a larger-than-life picture. The ship was a 168ft freighter converted & all we could do was head into it very slowly with the waves crashing over the bow to keep from capsizing! We ended up in Russian waters before it was over & was buzzed by their Air Force & forcefully escorted out of the area because it was in 1980! When it was the U.S.S.R. Mother Russia. ✌OUT!

JESUS HAVE MERCY.... Incredible boat designs, semi-displacement hulls with self bailing decks and water tight cabins, great combination for REALLY rough seas.

Bet they don't let amateurs or regular people ride along. Because if I was on that boat ... in that: I'd be puking, pooping, farting, yelling we're gonna die ... we're all gonna die ... I'm coming home Jesus ... Have mercy on me Lord!!! **************** And when they take me off that boat, I'd be like a jellyfish out of water -- a soft, wet, pulpy mass ... 😳
