A Mysterious Condition was Making this Shelter Dog Aggressive | The Farm for Dogs

Rover, our once misunderstood, set for euthanasia, saved at the last minute dog who turned out to have a rare medical condition that was making him very sore, uncomfortable and very unhappy. Once that was fixed, he not only became our Mr Congeniality, but also our incredible dock diving champ.
Warning ⚠️ there are pictures of Rover’s medical procedure. It has been shared amongst the vet community due to its rare size and position. We have permission from Rover’s surgeon to share and it helps to see in context the discomfort he was experiencing.

Living in constant pain and not being able to communicate anything about it - a devastating thought. Serendipity brought Rover to Luke's attention, the rest is history. A golden soul inside the snarling, aggressive dog. Once his pain was over, he became sunny boy, everyone's friend and play mate. And they say fairy tales are not true? As a veterinarian I am gob smacked at the photo taken of the surgery - that uterus is huge and is adhered to his bladder - I can’t imagine what that felt like. There was an interesting article in a vet journal recently that linked chronic pain to undesirable behaviour in cats and dogs and if you can identify and alleviate the painful medical problem their behaviour will change and their true kind nature comes out . This is a perfect example - kudos to Luke and Sam for taking a chance on Rover and giving him a life where he can shine. ❤from Canada

It is very interesting to hear a vet’s opinion. This is such an extraordinary case, with such an amazing outcome. I hope dog owners and vets become more aware of the possibility that pain may be causing a negative behaviour change. At least checking for pain and making sure it is not contributing factor would benefit the dog and owner regardless.

Dear Luke and Sam, it's not too long ago, that algorithm showed me your breathtaking wonderful channel. With respect, love - sometimes tears in my eyes, other times laughter a dog lover-grandma from the other side of this planet (who needs more humans who care not only about their personal wellbeing.) admires your dedication and competence in mastering the life you have chosen. These videos could serve as a blueprint for authentic unpretending communion as a family and beyond the barriers of species. We, here in crowded Germany envy you kiwis for so much living space. At age 77 I look back on a rich - and still healthy - life with many different dogs - big and small ones, as pets and also two Briards. with one I spent a wonderful year guarding a flock of sheep in the France Alps. What prevents me of having another doggy friend, of course is my age but also the attitude here towards our free roaming fellow beings: little opportunity to contact each other. If you have them offleash even well behaved, always a plastic bag at hand for their droppings - you get into trouble. Away from cities in rural areas there might be hunters who immediately remind you to leash your dog. Anyway, I still love dogs, they teach us so much about how we as a species fail and about unconditional acceptance /love same, yet different from us two legged often crippled lovers ! Wish you all a wonderful now!

I love how Rover has been the only one thus far, who has been able to get Lily to engage in play, other than Luke of course. Good job Rover!! This medical marvel has grown into a very big boy since his surgery. He’s got a rather non-threatening personality within the pack, gets along well with all of them, and has even extended the olive branch to Cruiser in recent months. I think Rover has been quite instrumental in teaching Cruiser how to play in a pack of dogs. PSST…has anyone else noticed the sub count?! 😁 We’re gaining by the day now!! It’s about time!!!

This is one of my favourite stories from day one I have cried and stressed about Rover when he went for the op. Luke don't sell yourself short you gave Rover a chance and went the extra mile and you and Sam never gave up on him. Seeing what came out of Rover after the surgery, I'm so glad that Dee decided to send him to the Farm for some 'inspection' period, which ultimately saved his life. (Hell!
