That is the upper stage of the rocket from the SpaceX launch you mentioned. This phenomenon has been seen before, and I believe it is part of the deorbit process. Since all of the propellant has been expended, there is leftover ullage gas which gets vented via the reaction control system. This causes it to tumble and go into an unstable orbit, so that it can reenter the atmosphere and break up.

@@Thyalwaysseek all the fuel is essentially expended, so it is primarily expending inert gas, and it is technically not in the atmosphere at that point. While SpaceX is launching more mass to orbit, it is doing so in a much cleaner and less wasteful manner. Once Starship is operational, it will be even less polluting and wasteful as all of the spacecraft will return to Earth and be reused instead of expended in the atmosphere/ocean.

This would have been the upper stage for the GPS III-06 mission (satellite USA-343 "Amelia Earhart"). Specifically this was the 'burn' of the maneuvering thrusters to put a centrifugal spin on the craft+payload to 'fling' the satellite away from the upper stage instead of use precious fuel. The initial glowing would have been the last final tiny course correction bursts in multiple directions, creating expanding shell & waves of nitrogen gas. It did indeed release it's payload over the eastern Pacific, and the launch video shows it spinning slowly in the sunlight when it did. It's last main engine burn was a 15min previous to deploying so it had to have induced that spin somewhere visible to Hawaii. The interesting bit is you can roughly gauge the other satellite's (the fast moving dots) orbital altitude by their speed and where they appear & disappear. Higher orbits are slower & are visible longer in the sun. This satellite was being pushed into a high geosynchronous orbit.

Wow, I wasn’t surprised by all the Star Trek comments, but didn’t expect to see this one! Farscape is a very underrated show. Love it!!

John Crichton was one lucky bastard. He travels through a wormhole, and instead of getting ejected into a vacant and empty region of space where he presumably would have died all alone by running out of oxygen or power, he instead finds himself in an inhabited region of space surrounded by aliens. Included amongst the aliens are some attractive and interesting female aliens that look very much like human women. He later goes on an adventure of a lifetime, and he ultimately does end up sleeping with at least two of the alien women that he finds. What? How lucky can a guy get? Maybe I should spend some time trying to develop wormhole tech.
