Origin of The Valley of the Rocks:
It is thought that during the Ice Age the ice sheet prevented the East Lyn River from reaching the sea on its normal route and was diverted westwards. When the ice sheet retreated the river was able to resume its original path, leaving this valley riverless. Over the years the valley has silted up to become the U-shape we now see, not caused by a glacier. It is well-known for its unusual rock formations and caves.

Have been visiting Exmoor for over 25years, As my friend is a paraplegic and unable walk, Transport is essential requirement, I think we visited all beauty spots not to mention pubs for lunch, Our high light of our exploring is Deer watching and the rutt each year!!Wildlife birdwatching the changing seasons hold a special place in our hearts, The stunning views of the channel,Sailing yachts to container ships, Hold a fascination and wonder, The peaceful tranquility of Exmoor the wonderful people living in quaint villages, Unfortunately my best long time friend companion is unable to carry on driving from Bristol anymore owing to health issues and advancing years, Between us we have many photos and footage of the magical place, Which as stayed the same since I was a little boy!!!🙂🇬🇧👍

As you say, much of it hasn't changed for many years and long may it stay that way! Thanks for watching the video. Best wishes, Rob

P.S. I would love to know if you do any walking around Hartland Quay. I visited a few years ago and loved the geology of the cliffs! (Unfortunately, film was lost in transit). Sorry to see the grand Hotel, Tor, had been sold and dismantled--hoped to stay there when I returned.

I hope you had a hearty meal and drink after your walk that day - you deserved it as that trip must have been tiring, but giving you a lot of pleasure as well going from one grand view to another. It is a bit of England that I were not aware of - my knowledge of the English countryside is mainly from Wodehouse and he was rather vague about Devon :-) Anyway - here is the Norwegian version of the The Valley of the Rocks kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnPdi5tjqrJqhNE .

Tx ANT. Yes it's a great walk and beautiful views. Very tiring though, walking up that steep hill - it took about 45 mins to climb up. I have looked at your version - you have much bigger rocks :) What a trail that it, I'm not sure we could take Edith along there, she might disappear...
