Saw you go live with this the other day and while it was too late at night for me to jump in and watch it live, just wanted to say I love the look of your setup, how you presented it and also the genereal idea of deep diving into something like the Nerdseq. So yeah cool stuff!

Stoked on seeing the composition use yall cook up! Thanks for this.. Hoping to see if you'll cover things other videos haven't covered like recording inputs 1-4 from external modules like a Tetrapad+tete, best use of midi from external keyboard improv, and Digital Oscillator Voice changing CVs (idk plaits or something) like calling a specific preset on digital controlled module as there isn't sbus modes i think?? just to name topics 😅
@Buildmusic

thank you for your support! I probably won't get to CV recording until later in the series, as its not something I normally use myself. I can definitely talk through using CV as module presets though!

Hello and thanks for very easy to follow video! Great content! Im wondering about tuning part. Did you have to calibrate your Nerdseq? Mine for example if I set C-4 tune from cv out to for example to Doepfer basic VCO (vco tune set to mid position +5), the tuning I get is somewhere in D7, so generally very high. This seems to be issue with all my oscillators (Anti-oscillator and Piston Honda also), so Im wondering if my calibration on Nerdseq is set too high...

I've been playing with the hermod and am trying to build tracks on it, still learning it though. Do you mind explaining some of the quirks you didn't like about it for making full tracks? I know there's a song mode, and it's def easy to make loops. But curious about your experience, it seems like you've done a way deeper dive thus far.
@Buildmusic
@Buildmusic 2 жыл бұрын
Sure! for me Hermod was kind of a pain to work with. it has a very small screen, so using it to hand-edit note values was very difficult. you're also limited to 8 patterns as well. For me, i didn't gel with the workflow. that said, my buddy Second Breakfast is the Hermod King lol. and he is definitely using them to make full tracks. At the end of the day, you have to find a workflow that works for you.

@@Buildmusic thanks for the feedback! That guy SB is the man, thanks for putting me into his stuff. Too bad he quit though I saw…yeah workflow is everything. I’m gonna keep at it with the hermod but I’m enjoying your videos. You caught my attention when you said it’s similar to ableton. Trackers seem kinda scary but if it’s similar to ableton that might just be the way to go for me if it doesn’t work out with hermod. Thanks for these videos!

I have a question. Why does everyone call it “nerd seck”? it’s not a seckquencer, it’s a sequencer. Am I crazy?

@Buildmusic

@@tonimeloni2110 I would say no. The nerdseq does have ways to make sound with a basic sample player and FM synth, but its not really worth it in standalone

Dumb question. It looks like you are jumping up and down by 16 rows in the Pattern view (from row 0x00, 0x10, 0x20... etc) instead of just a single row at a time. How ?? Shift+Down or Shift+Up only moves 1 row on my NerdSeq.

hey sorry for the delay, should just be the up down buttons (not the directional cursor)

I have a question about channels 7 and 8 of Nerdseq you set up as a Midi. I am a bit confused how are you using them to trigger samples on your BitBox? I don't see any cable coming out from 7,8 channels but I do see cable on midi in of bitbox...
@Buildmusic
@Buildmusic 2 жыл бұрын
Sure thing! I have the 2hp TRS midi expander for the nerdseq. In the track assignment, i set tracks 7 and 8 to be midi instead of the built in sample track. Track 8 I use for drums, so that one is using midi channel 10 to the bitbox mk II. Track 7 i am using for pads with the knobula poly cinematic, set to midi channel 16. so in this case, I am not using the nerdseq's audio outputs. Let me know if you have any more questions!
@dr1059
@dr1059 2 жыл бұрын
@@Buildmusic Now I got, it! Haven't noticed 2hp TRS midi expander , thanks! I am also using BitBox Mk2 and it looks like really cool way to trigger pads. So from midi expander you send midi to BitBox's midi in and then in the BitBotx tools settings you configured what MIDI pad (by number) to trigger, right?
@Buildmusic
@Buildmusic 2 жыл бұрын
@@dr1059 Correct. I just use the default pad -> note mapping, so bottom left is C3 then it snakes up from there.

Is there a benefit on using track length instead of break?
@Buildmusic
@Buildmusic 2 жыл бұрын
IIRC they're functionally identical. Track length in the nerd menu was added latter. I personally find changing track length easier to work with, but breaks will do the same thing
@karlnovac1726
@karlnovac1726 2 жыл бұрын
@@Buildmusic I can see a little benefit with the rest being greyed out and not editable, especially in a darker live environment. Far away from doing anything like live or real music, but might give track length a go. 😁
@xorelectronics
@xorelectronics 2 жыл бұрын
Functions like the euclidean, shifting, playback order and more make use of the pattern length. Brk on the other hand can be involved with probabilities and randomness. So they are use cases for both.

I'd have to say that the most annoying thing about expanders is you can't get to them from an internal pattern.So you can't hit the CV16 from an internal FX mod. This series is reawakening my relationship with the Nerdseq.
@Buildmusic
@Buildmusic 2 жыл бұрын
Thomas did just add the ability to access the Trigger 16 Expander from the CV16 track, so maybe that is coming in a future update? worth asking on the forums
