I wish we had this when I was growing up. You can make a bale go a whole lot further and I love how a hydraulic bed on a pickup can run it.

That is a nice piece of equipment. I think by feeding in a different spot every time you are building up your soil by tramping in seed, urine and manure. You’re building soil and replacing nutrients, as well as saving labor and every animal gets fed without crowding out the timid ones. WinWin.

I have one of these, actually 3 of their feeders, people do talk about the blind spot, but you can offset to load by a foot or two and look down your left side making loading easier. Also if you know which way the bale is wound/wrapped up by the baler you can acheive an even better feed swath on the ground and minimal damage to the fodder. You should ask them next about giving you their mineral and pallet/cake feeder that can go on the front and dispense it over the top of the hay you are feeding out, I have one which can go on my big combi feeder they make and on my trailed feeder. Enjoy yourself

Oh this is interesting, I guess in a big open field you would want to keep any grain or leaves on the stem otherwise it could just get lost on the ground in the snow and stuff, never thought about it before. I hope this new equipment works out well for you this winter! :}
@HustlerEquipment4 жыл бұрын
Yeah totally right. The whole point of making (or buying) nice grass/alfafa mix hay - just like Mike does - is to get the best out of it, and what's the point if all the leaves are blown away in the wind or got lost in the snow? With this machine, we tried to develop a system that is aggressive enough to take care of difficult bales (high density, mishapen, etc) yet being very gentle on the hay, not pulverizing the stem nor the leaves or grain.

Hustler will decrease your hay waste when feeding out you will notice this So over the year you’ll feed out less bales This product is one of the best investments to make savings in your business and very quite to operate If you have a loose wrapped bale normally the whole bale would unwrap in one go but now with this hustler you can feed out as much or little as required and take rest to other field/paddock awesome savings

I really like this device. if it truly helps with the digestion of the foods to get the most nutrition, and less waste, lessons the possibility of bloat. I am all for this device. Not to mention the lessening of waste, easy feeding for all the cattle, and to manage bullying over food aggression, makes for a happier herd. Another benefit, less stress makes for a happier, healthier herd.

This tool looks like a beast but I still love the Greg Judy model.
@andreafalconiero90894 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about the bale unroller. A good bale unroller like the one Greg Judy sells will do essentially the same job, but would be the superior tool for several reasons: 1) probably about 1/5th the cost. If I remember correctly, Greg sells his for ~$2k, and another commenter said this thing was about $10k. How much hay can you buy for $8k? How many years would it take to recoup that added cost assuming this implement has slightly greater feed efficiency (unproven, btw) than an unroller? 2) all steel construction. This thing has so much exposed plastic that it will probably be irreparable junk in less than a decade unless it's kept indoors -- perhaps not even then. Plastic flexes, cracks, and degrades in sunlight and cold temperatures -- even with added plasticizers and UV retardants. I've never seen any plastic where that wasn't true, and it is especially true where plastic is used as a wear surface subject to abrasion and mechanical stress -- as it is in this device. Farm implements should be made of steel or other metals so they are durable and can be repaired on-site by the owner when necessary. 3) mechanical simplicity. The more moving parts, the greater the need for costly and time-consuming maintenance. This thing is vastly more complicated mechanically than a bale unroller for a very marginal benefit (if any) in utility. 4) lower operating and environmental costs. A bale unroller can be operated with an ATV/UTV or pickup truck, whereas this requires a tractor or similar with hydraulics. Why spend all that money on diesel and tear up your pastures with a tractor when a UTV will do the job? 5) very similar functionality and effectiveness. This implement seems like a solution in search of a problem. A bale unroller does essentially the same job and will be about equally effective in feeding cattle. Yes, the windrow produced by this thing will be narrower, but cattle will "waste" some of the hay regardless of how it's spread out by trampling on it, lying down in it, and urinating and defecating on it. A thicker, more narrow windrow might make that problem worse rather than better, and will tend to concentrate the nutrients from the uneaten hay more than unrolled hay, and that's _not_ a good thing. I see no reason to think that this device will be more efficient at feeding cattle and soil than an unroller, or that any slight gain in efficiency would outweigh all the other drawbacks. In any case, uneaten hay is not actually "wasted", so going to great lengths to minimize it is unwarranted. As Greg says, it's an investment in soil fertility. With a bale unroller, most of the hay will still be eaten by the cattle, and the rest feeds the soil and builds more grass and more cattle in future years -- nothing is truly "wasted" using either implement. I'd say you should be glad to have a good bale unroller, and have no regrets about _not_ having one of these. As Greg says, spending all your money on unnecessary equipment and infrastructure is just "a good way to go broke."

Hi @@andreafalconiero9089, thanks for your comment. If you are happy with the equipment you use on your farm, that is the main point and no reason to change a 'A Team'! We are not trying to change your mind at all, but we'd like to answer a few of your questions because it is always good (and necessary) to challenge our products to the reality of the market... and the users! 1) The cost of an equipment can be justified depending on the challenges the user struggle with. I can be time saving (depending on how much users value their time of course, we are all different), hay savings etc. A few researchers have actually tried to modelised feed efficiency, so it is not totally unproven ;) Check out this article for more information if you would like: www.hustlerequipment.com/2020/07/08/ways-to-minimize-the-impact-of-hay-feeding/ If you manage to achieve better feed efficienty, even just 10%, it means that over 1,000 bales fed out over one winter season, you can actually save $7,500 (assuming that a bale costs on average $75 - but yeah, these numbers vary depending on your location, the number of bales you actually feed out, the drought etc). Here is also an interesting video from a user in Colorado if you want to have a look: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHfHe5mJgLp8gMk 2) Our machines are built using steel, high tensile, Bisalloy (blades used on Bulldozer's blades). The plastic sheet covers a steel frame (support) and the reason why we used polyethylene specifically is because this material is slippery (allows the bale to turn about 30% better than with steel - calculation given by computer). Polyethylene is treated against UV and is a flexible material that is resistant to change of temperature if enough room is allowed to expend. This type of plastic can also be welded (if needed to repair cracks - which is really cost effective). And bonus: you can recycle polyethylene, which is good for environment too :) 3) We developed our machine to be durable and simple. There is a very few moving parts, meaning that not a lot of things can go wrong. A user in Ohio summarized this concept better than we could ever: "it's a very sophisticated piece of machinery actually, but it's very simple. And that's the sophistication, the simplicity!" kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4fIoaRsgb2nd6c About longevity in general, as a manufacturer, we totally understand that ranchers want a piece of equipment that lasts and hold on its value. All our machines are designed to be durable and low maintenance. Some of our customers use our machines for over 10 years and don't plan on upgrading them. For instance we have a farmer in New Zealand who owns a mounted model for 19 years now and last time we checked, the machine is still up and running on the farm kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZDWfYZperyshtE 4) Our machines are design to be fuel efficient. They work fast and they don't require a lot of horsepower of hydraulic flow. Nothing compared to a PTO-driven machine anyway. With specific/proper adaptation, mounted models could be mounted on a pick-up truck. The problem with ATV/UTV is that they are very handy machines, but not designed to carry one or two 1-ton bales. So on a small operation it would be all good, but on a largest operation that requires to feed out 5 or 6 bales a day, it would not be as suitable. Tractors are still an essential piece of machinery in a large-scale operation. Again, everyone is different and should go for the best suitable solution. 5) No need to repeat what Lance explained in the video, but basically the thin, narrow windrow allows to cover more ground and offer a few benefits. Among these benefits: - the herd is spread on a larger area, which spread manure and urine on a greater area - it is easier to access to the feed for the cows (or calf) at the bottom of the 'pecking order' - with the rotors, the hay is fluffed up, that makes the hay more palatable (and easier to grab and to eat), ultimately resulting on less wastage because less hay is fed out - yes, like you said very well yourself, the uneaten hay returns to the ground, as well as the seeds, so unrolling hay in different parts of the paddock each day is great for the soil. Depends on how much the user is willing to convert into re-seeding (wasting a quarter of a bale on re-seeding is maybe not absolutely necessary though) We hope that answered some of your questions. Again, everyone should pick whatever implement that suits their operation best. If you ever have more questions, we are more than happy to help (reach out Lance Paskewitz at 507-208-5404 | lance@hustlerequipment.com). Thanks for your feedback and taking the time to develop your point of view!
